I could do with some advice from you guys please?

My PC will not boot. In fact the little blighter will not even post the bios screen. The only thing that moves when powering up are the fans.

What happened? (In your own words sir)

Well...I was using Everest with the correct 'Clockgen' program for my motherboard when I noticed that the cpu frequency did not alter when re-setting the fsb using the slider.

I thought... oh....maybe just a reboot will fix it... reset the bios and all will be well?. Nope...now she wont boot up. The monitor just displays ' No video input'

I have checked the motherboard & graphics card for signs of little black smoke and all seams to be OK. The motherboard has the green light on but I cant hear any hard disk activity.

If any one has any ideas please could you post a reply....I've just ordered a 6800GS from Overclockers and it should arrive today so this will be the first thing to change.

I think I may have blown the motherboard, but I'm not sure, is there a way to check?

I have cleared the Cmos data using the jumper but I havent taken out the battery. I can try the battery when I get home tonight.

I ve seen some bad reports of these motherboards on the fourms for the same problem. It probably didnt help by overclocking it....

i would just try the battery as most likely to work, could have damamged the board possibly. test the board, cpu and psu with spares if u can. hope it sorts its self out.

I've sold all my spares over the last 2 months.....

Damn EB*Y!!!......

Thanks for the response guys, I never thought of removing the battery.

Oh and my new 6800GS has turned up today!...

Out with the 9600 and in with the 6800GS....If I get it to boot...Someone posted a great review the other day about this card...aparently you can unlock the extra pipelines if your lucky using rivatuner...

Check around the CPU also for black marks (Same applies for the Motherboard clean off the dust if needed but be carefull not to cause a static discharge - i tend to use Tisues or the hoover with the plastic nozzle jobby), a good hint is the smell of burning electrical componants, thats a tell tale sign of a blown resistor / Transistor.

Faulty RAM stick.....

Did the swap round proceedure etc etc, one of the 512Mb sticks causing all the problems....

Anyone know of any good value RAM about £125-£150?

Thanks for the support again.....

My old mobile cpu is blackened from the crazy water overclocker who had it before me but it works fine. Recently my dfi board failed and there was telltale black parts to the motherboard just by the 4 pin cpu slot, would boot fine but very unstable

I've been looking at that stuff today.
