OMG I had ballistix saw all this happening to people so I got some GeIL Ultra platinum.

I'm just thankfull it diddent happen to me.

I bought crucial memory twice in the past. Both failed, one set was ballistix. Their RMA service is excellent, I suppose it would have to be.

If one gets a good kit they can be excellent, but it is too hit and miss.

I will never buy crucial memory again.

Just got my ballistix ddr400 back from crucial yesterday 1st return in a year. no such problems for me. rev 2.0 with new heat spreaders. fitted passive cooling fan this time as heat spreader contact is too close in dual channel slots so no overheating this time i hope. RMA'd in 3 days.

rev 2.0 with new heat spreaders

What's that all about then?
Got a picture in case mine look different tomorrow? Although, you have DDR400 and I have DDR500 ram.

Although they are still micron based modules they are on new black PCB's and the Heat spreaders are thinner but made of a higher grade aluminium to disperse heat. The new PCB's are supposed to help with the solder contact on chip mountings so avoiding the breakdown of transfer between modules and controller. I had original big clumsy golden coloured modules previously. The new ones are gold with silver polished edge and ballistix branding.

Ok, the circle has closed. New modules arrived this morning and also have the new heat spreaders. Can't see the actual modules as they are still wrapped.
