Hi, I recently designed a logo for a friend to put on her website. Now she wants the logo turned into a sign for outside her shop. My problem is the guy who does the signs says a jpeg file is not good enough and it has to be an .ai file (Adobe illustrator I'm presuming).

Is there any way I can turn my file into a filetype that does not lose image quality when resizing ?

I have the original .PSD file although I did use a jpeg image as part of the design.

If I cant is there a way I can just re-do the text and save it as a .ai file in Photoshop Cs3 so the text does not lose quality when being enlarged ?

Any help would be great :D

Thats the finished jpeg file, I also have it as a PSD working file.

Rather you than me :o.

The text looks a bit aliased to me, have you applied smoothing in Photoshop?

How big do you have that jpeg? You can cheat in illustrator to convert it to a vector (doesn't always work), the bigger it is the better the results. Failing that you might have to manually re-draw it, the fun :).

Mind you, that jpeg looks like it was from a vector image anyway, do you know where you got it from?

It was originally from a cartoon drawing by a friend. The reason it looks that way is that I photoshopped it to meet the colour scheme she asked for and ran it through some filters to simplify it.

If I wanted to just re-do the text on its own how would I go about doing it so it can be turned into a large sign via Photoshop ?

You are going to have a mare making that a vector. Its doable, lets put it that way.

I'm trying to think of your best option. How big is the psd canvas?

Thats it I'm afraid. It was originally designed as a website logo, I had no idea she would want it as her shopfront sign.

She said shed be happy with just the text. How would I go about making the text scalable and what sized canvas should I start from ?

Is your friend an artist? A little bit of Googling and I found this image in its original form, by an artist called Kaori Minakami.

Just a little bit of a heads-up really, but if this artist is not your friend, the person who owns the shop would need to be careful as using this image would certainly seem to be breach of copyright.

With regards to the text only, give me 5 minutes and I will provide it in PDF, AI and EPS. ;)

Looks like the git is blagging me and passing it off as his own then ! Can you link me the page please ?

If you could mail me those files that would be sweet, if you need any info or details let me know. The fonts I used were gabrielle and old script with some slight drop shadow and gold coloured stroke. If you let me know what I need to do, ie what canvas to start from, resolution etc I can do it myself to save you the trouble.

Cheers

nice one diggsy.

whats the deal with the images darkstar? I imagine they cant stay on the website if they're breaching copyright?

Maybe find some needy art student to come up with something similar:D
