Its a shame how many people never got into the whole PC gaming thing. I mainly say this regarding Half Life.

Now I rate it as being the best game EVER, Final Fantasy 7 stands out but Half Life brought so much into my gaming, the first time I played it, I was drawn in.

Now, from people at work all anyone seems to talk about is Call of Duty, then when I mention the fact that Ive been playing games similar to COD online for over 10 years on PC, they say nothing but "xbox live is better"

I wish more people could know what we know! :(

meh hl is now decidedly average, at the time it was good for it's ai etc but now that's just poor.

FF7 is mroe timless as it;s based on story rather than mechanic

I wish they could know what we know too. :(

It is a shame not many people see the PC as a gaming machine; they just see it as a means to get on Facebook

One of the problems with PC gaming is the price - now we all know you can get a decent gaming machine for £300+ but a console is still cheaper and more convenient as you don't have to wait 10+ mins for a game to install.

I prefer the PC for gaming especially when it comes to FPS and RTS due to the keyboard and mice combo.

It's a shame that future games will always be made multi-platform so that they can be sold on PC and console, which means we have to get games with low-res textures and no 64 player support :( (Battlefield 3 anyone?)

PC gaming is not going anywhere soon though :)

What puts HL above FF7 for me is that at the time it was almost like I was playing in a little movie (the xen part was poo admittedly), but moreso it was the fact that the game Spawned Counter Strike, Team Fortress Classic and many more mods which were a massive part of my young gaming life :)

Its not really just about Half Life though, its the fact that people seem blinkered against the PC, its a shame because there was so many amazing games , but they just dont get the recognition my the xbox generation. chumps ! lol

I also tried to get the point across to a couple of the lads I work with that Keyboard and mouse is a much better controlling platform and that they would get spanked by me on COD if it was PC vs Xbox.

I explained how its much more twitchy and fast paced with a mouse, but they didnt seem to get it :(

Consoles are cheaper than PCs capable of running games, there's no escaping that fact.

There's also the fact that console gaming is seen as cool and acceptable now, whereas PC gaming still retains a bit of a nerdy 'cellar dweller' sort of image.

I don't mind though, it gives me smug sense of superiority over console gamers. ;)

(Not having a go at you but this pushes my buttons :p)
People need to stop saying consoles are cheaper it is no fact at all, no no no! If you have a console your gonna have a PC correct? You need to do your work, run a business, go to forums :p, youtube, facebook, music etc etc.

So you buy a console, chuck in the bare essentials your looking at around £200, you could spend more though if say you want XBL or PSN premium or a more expensive model.
- Console £200
- Cheapo PC £300
Total: £500

Being more realistic most people will spend more on those items
- Console £250
- Cheapo PC £400
Total: £650

For £650 you could buy yourself a fully capable PC not only capable of gaming but instead of having a crappy cheapo PC for your work and normal stuff you have a nice fast one instead it could also have blu ray capabilities for movies which an x360 or wii don't!

Add in the fact you don't pay for online activities like XBL, peripherals are much cheaper, games are a bit cheaper usually by £10 at least, higher reliability, you only need one monitor or TV for your gaming and computing whereas most users will go out and buy seperate displays one for their console and one for their PC (raises the price significantly), quieter, look at the cost of all the Wii peripherals lots of Wii users actually spend lots of money on hardware. Sure consoles are easier to use and yes most people think they are cheaper I understand that but you can't say it actually is cheaper because it's really not that's a fact! ok I should stop myself right now!

OK BACK ON TOPIC

I love the HL world.... EP3 plz :D ....

Indeed if it wasnt for Half life i wouldn't of got into PC gaming really as CS evolved from that as a mod and thats what brought me to PC gaming.

Would never go to a console for my gaming needs now.

wow there has been some epic games and yeah i do feel sorry for those who missed em and now class cod4 is the pinnacle of gaming :D

Deus Ex, Elite, Dungeon Master, Halflife to name a few.

We didnt have GFW or DLC crap in those days :D Heck even DRM was just a scribble on a piece of used toilet paper in them days.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I don't try to convert any of my friends that aren't already converted, cos I don't want to spend the rest of my life recommending graphics cards, installing memory, cleaning viruses off their PCs, defragging their hard drives, messing with config files and generally baby sitting their PC gaming experience.

PC gaming is niche because Microsoft operating systems make it too much trouble to be mainstream.

why dont you print out one of the recent articles where ms said they wouldnt let xbox users play pc online because pc users would tear them a new one :D.

maybe you could get some FOV shots of an xbox game and the same game on a pc and stick them on the notice board
