AIO Lifespan

I've not had one go wrong per se but when I was changing from AM4 to AM5, I noticed that all of the fins on the rad were covered in what looked like rust It just wasn't worth the risk so I swapped it out just in case & ended up getting a slightly beefier one.

AIO add potential for more problems / failures than air cooling, and in many if not most builds air coolers cool just as good if not better with no failures for less money.

Big part of reason so many users don't report AIO failures us because their systems don't run as many hours and/or are replaced every couple of years. The few that last 5+ years have low heat producing CPUs and are used a couple hours a day.

The only AIO I've ever had fail on me before its eventual hardware replacement due to system upgrades is the AMD R9 Fury X, the pump just seized up and ended up having to install a morpheus air cooler until the gpu was eventually replaced with a 5700XT. MY current Kraken NZXT is ~6 years old.

Am i just very lucky or are AIO lifespan claims very overated. Reviews say 3-5 years

I have a corsair H110 that was originally on a I5 4570k machine I bought second hand in 2015/6 and it's still working fine on my 5900x. (just done a prime95 tortue at stock watts keeps it to 65deg)

Have an old alienware R4 that has a rebranded asetek and that must be even older still going fine.

Also had a corsair H110 I installed on a 4770k. Was working like stock the day I sold it many years later. Just need to keep on top of cleaning the rad!

Got a few swiftech AIO laying around
Though those were better built
Than the usual asetek rebadged stuff around at the time
Good pumps in them
And standard 3/8id 5/8od tubing and g 1/4 fittings
Makes them serviceable and expandable too

NZXT Kraken running for five years now without missing a beat. Some of the RGB has gone wrong though. The ring around the top of it is now just RG….
