As per the title, looking to see if I should get an AIO or air cooler for my 9800X3D build (along with a 9070XT), case is an Enthoo Pro M from about 2021. Currently looking at the following:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £159.94 (includes delivery: £0.00)

I've used an AIO for years now but have used Noctua air coolers in the past. Don't think I'll be OC'ing and mainly playing games (no specific ones, I play anything!). Let me know your thoughts.

The 9800X3D is not difficult to cool. The do run fairly warm, but throwing money at the problem doesn't get you anywhere. If you are considering air and AIO then I would say go for air. No need to get all those extra moving parts when you don't need them.

I installed a Thermalright royal knight 120 air cooler but swapped out both the fans for Noctua.

Runs the same temps as the peerless assassin and does not block any memory slots as I run 2 dimms + 2 rgb blanks

Thermalright Peerless Assassin has more cooling than you need, will last forever, and are low priced starting at £29.99 and maxing out at £49.99 .. all cool basically the same.

Basic model:

Higher prices for different fans, lighting, digital readouts, etc.

Link below shows most if not all of them:

In a similar boat here. I want to upgrade to a 9950X or 9950X3D (I'm not a heavy gamer, but I need the high clock speeds for application use, multiple VM use, generally a nippy PC). Could I get away with an air cooler instead of an AIO. I currently have a Dark Rock Pro 4 for use with my 5950X, which keeps the temps perfectly fine and is quiet. Looking for suggestions for an AM5 cooler, ideally air.

You can use an air cooler for them (especially if you'll be under mild load most of the time), but it'll need some power/fan curve tweaking for best results. The beefier the cooler, the better.
