Aion Online - good or bad?

It looked nice, but I thought it was fairly terminal by about level 14, so I gave up. I've got a friend that's put a bit more time into it, and he's totally lukewarm about it. I certainly wouldn't be paying for it each month.

you just need to try it for yourself, i could tell you its a great game that i really enjoy, that you need to get at least to lvl 25 before the game opens up.. all i will say is that its polished , good fun and worth a sub.

I m loving it, it isn't a grind fest at all really, perhaps there are less quests per level than WoW but it makes people group up a bit. And there are less levels.

PVP and the graphics are a hell of a lot better than WoW and flying is ace.

Its entirely likely that you will get 50% of people replying here saying they like it, and 50% of people replying here saying they dont like it.

I like it.

But in all honesty, a lot of people wont like it.

Not a final measure at all, but generally speaking...if you played and liked Daoc then theres a good chance that you will like Aion. If you are newer to MMOs than Daoc then theres a good chance that you wont like Aion. I find that quite often a persons like or dislike of Aion is very related to what MMOs they are used to.

Major complaints against the game are the so-called "grind" (even though it actually has less of a grind than Daoc, EQ or to a degree UO) and being ganked by higher level players (even though the penalty for being ganked is essentially nothing, especially when compared to the penalty in UO of losing everything you were carrying). As I say, largely depends upon what MMO you are used to and what style of MMO you like.

I agree with tombstone aswell. I have played Lineage 2 and Eve Online. So grinding doesn't really bother me and I enjoy the more open PVP aspect.

If you are used to newer MMOs that take you through step by step this possibly might be a bit hard/frustrating.

It's the same with most new mmo's.

They're announced, gather lots of fan boys that think it will be brilliant and will quit all other games for it, then it comes out, it's not all that good and they crawl back to their old games with new names ;)

Aion, seemed to promise quite a lot, but the only thing that has *really* changed is the addition of quests, in the original (korean) version you didn't have quests and you just had to grind killing things to level up.

Warcraft, for all it's fault at least doesn't solely make you kill things to level up.

I actually wouldnt mind that..but then again as I have always said the best MMO I have ever played was UO..which had zero quests :D

Daoc is the 2nd best MMO I ever played, which coincedently also essentially had zero quests.

Like I say, largely depends on what your MMO playing style is and what your past MMO likes have been whether or not you are someone who enjoys Aion.

Im from a UO background myself, and am just trying out Aion.. Level 11 at the moment, and really not sure what to make of it. Its ok, going to see what its like at the Abyss stage, hopefully will improve some what.

As for the graphics, I honestly dont see what people are on about - I much prefer the look of WoW, and all my settings are on the highest.

If you dont mind grinding to level up then Aion is ok, however if you always feel burned out after leveling for a few hours then imo it's not that appealing.

I've grown tired of level based mmo's.

i love it, played wow for a year or so, but i hated hated hated having to give up every night to raid with my guild when i'd rather i play when i want to play. Aion is fantastic, and i can stop and start whenever I like, with no pressure whatsoever. And it's a very fun game to play, there are enough quests per level to satisfy me, and i think the remaining 40-60% grind is fine. I think all quests like WoW would be too easy, and no quests might be a bit tedious, but i find aion to have struck the perfect balance.

so it's a case of playing it for a month and see how we get on.. or I'll be selling the game again and just getting a WoW account. It's been 14 months since I played WoW last and I haven't done 'lich king' yet.. so my old characters got deleted (meh). So I'll have to start again whatever game I play. :D

Have you played any MMO other than WoW?

Did you enjoy WoW?

Did you play on a PvP server or a PvE server in WoW?

What was it you enjoyed about it?

What made you leave it 14 months ago?

Those responses should give you some idea of whether or not you will like Aion, or whether you should just stick to WoW.
