Hi guys,

I am in the market for a cheap yet effective air compressor. The main issue is I only really need it for one thing but I will either sell it when used or keep and have it for other things.

The main use is to do a job on my car where I need to spray underbody seal to deal with a leak. I will be doing this with something known as a Schutz gun, which you can see in the picture below:

According to the specification it has a working pressure of 6Bar/90Psi.

My budget for the compressor is no more than £100 but preferably a lot less if possible? As an example here is one I have found which seems like it would be suitable it's just a bit expensive.

Stanley 8216035SCR011 24Ltr Compressor with 5 Piece Accessory Kit 240Vr

Hopefully there are some air compressor experts around :)

Thanks!!

Thanks for the responses guys.

So am I looking at the right kind of compressor? Like the one I have linked.

Looking in the manual for that air compressor it seems to state 6.5 CFM. Would this be enough? Would that be its max?

Thanks :)

Thanks for the response and info mate!

Do you think the 6.35CFM airflow of the Stanley would be enough as well?

I think the good thing about the Stanley one is it would probably be easier to sell on given the name. That's if I don't keep it!

The previously linked air compressor seems to be made by a UK company called SGS engineering. They do also have a £99 compressor: 24 Litre Air Compressor - 9.6CFM, 2.5HP, 24L. But I'm not really sure what would be the best choice out of the two? Ideally I wanted to spend less but I don't think they will be powerful enough if they are any cheaper!!

I can't really find any listings that state the air flow requirement this is the annoying thing. Not sure how I'm supposed to find this out?

Thanks for all the help!

Thanks for the response!

I must have been looking in the wrong places and didn't realise that all the Schutz guns would be the same spec. That's great though to actually have a bit of a figure to go by.

Would the SGS one I liked work then? But it just won't work for as long or something?

I only ask because I quite like the look of buying it from them and really don't want anything to extreme!

Thanks again :)

Thanks for all of the responses everyone.

I have been having a look at all of the compressors suggested to me as well as trying to look into the requirements of the Schutz gun. If the gun is around the 7 CFM mark then realistically how long would the SGS compressor last for? It would clearly be capable right? It's more how long it will last.

The amount I am spraying really isn't that big and potentially the compressor will be used once. I cannot justify spending more than £100 on one of these unless it is actually needed.

What do you guys think?

Then do t waste your money and pay a garage that £100 to do it for you.

Don't waste your money on the compressor you have quoted in your opening post... It will only leave you frustrated and with a bad coating.

Did you even get my email? The options in there is only £120-150... So not pushing your budget far at all and they will do what you want them to.

The eBay deal for £170 is the best of them all though...

Buy the proper kit or pay a garage... Don't waste your money by buying something that won't do what you want it to.

Paying a garage is pointless as they won't even know what needs doing, not only that but it will cost a lot more than £100. We have sealed it already but appear to have a missed a very small amount. Having the Schutz gun would allow me just to get into where is needed without taking everything out.

I'm also not referring to the compressor in my OP. I'm referring to the one I posted further down: 24 Litre Air Compressor - 9.6CFM, 2.5HP, 24L. From everything you have said surely this will manage the very small amount I need to do? It's just a matter of working out how long it works for until I have to wait again. This is what I have no idea about unless I'm missing something else?

I did get your email and read all of it, I looked at the links as well thank you :) My concern is that really £100 is the top end of my budget.

Thanks again :)

Can anybody tell me roughly how long the compressor below would run the gun that I have also linked further down? Is there any way I can work this out?

I understand a lot of people have stated how the 24L tank will not last very long but can anyone give me an accurate length of time?

SGS 24 Litre Air Compressor

  • Tank Size 24 Litres
  • Air Displacement 9.6 CFM
  • Engine Size 2.5 HP
  • Discharge Pressure 115 PSI / 8 bar

Sealey SG14 Coating Gun

  • Model No: SG14
  • Air Pressure: 90psi
  • Air Consumption: 8cfm
  • Air Inlet Size: 1/4"BSP

Thanks everyone :)
