Hey.

My renault meganes aircon died.

Unfortunately the garage has a machine that has two valves but this car only has one. Thus they didnt know what to do.

Does anyone know how to regass this cars aircon so that I can tell them? The lads said they wont be able to contact renault till wed and I want it gassed with dye tomorrow to find the leak asap.

Im going away next monday on a long drive and qant my ac working. I can get a replacement compressor and pipes within 24 hours but they wont simply replace them without finding the fault.

Oh its a mk 2 renault megane 2008 1.5dci 5door

Help me please motor gods

Your car should have two ports, one on the Suction and Liquid line.

Some car manufactures put the ports in stupid places, I did my neighbours Mondeo and you have to take the front off side wheel and arch off to get to the port!

Depends on what port is available, ideally you want the suction.

Edit: It appears from the web you only have one port!!

According to here you only have 1 port.

You've got to suck and blow from the same port... and maybe find a new garage who know about modern Renaults!

I found that site as well on a Google search, would be handy have both ports though!

They have a new machine that has a red and blue hose that does everything automatically :/

I would go to renault but they are 30 mins away -.-

My local garage would it it with me watching as I like to watch lol. Renault vanish with the car and say they fixed stuff only to find its broken again in a month. And take allll day

Thats the problem when using the machines, they decant and vac from both sides of the system, whether there is option to only use on side but I am not sure.

Blue is the suction side and red is the discharge side (You might already know this :p)

Seems upon Googleing there are adapters that allow high and low pipes to connect to the single one on megans... its £20 so I might buy one for the hell of it and then teach um how its done haha.

Will let you know what they say tomorrow

turns out it cant hold a vacuum at all so finding the leak will be very hard, the garage I'm dealing with doesn't actually want to spend the time doing it..!

They quoted £100 in time to strip it down and have a look for any oil leakage or other signs of damage such as a condenser crack or w/e, is this reasonable? because they said if they cant find the leak they will still charge for the time and i WILL NOT pay for something that gives no result.

Also i got a second hand Compressor that is said to work for £40 posted which arrives tomorrow, the garage said they would charge the same for putting that in as well as look for the leak.
Im at a loss because i was hopeing to have it fixed by the weekend but it seems its becoming a long winded event. I think i now hate french cars haha

Yeah a lot of Renaults have only one port. It's never an issue re-gassing from the one side though. I've never come across a machine that wont do it off one port.

As for finding the leak, filling with something like nitrogen is usually how it's done.

I VERY much doubt throwing a compressor at it will fix anything. They simply don't leak. It's most likely to be the condensor but it's possible a pipe has gone somehow.

Go somewhere that knows what they're doing and wont charge you silly amounts to just have a look IMO.

The Compressor thats in there used to Whine a large amount and that is what i presumed to have died

I'd go elsewhere, that seems really shady in the sense they could just say "nah, we couldn't find the leak", and pocket a free 100 quids.
