I've been noticing more and more in the cold weather in especially in the morning that my windows are misting up when using recirculate air.
If I put my cars blower on recirculate and A/C on hot to heat the car up quicker the windows start to mist up within 30 seconds.
Is it likely that the AC has given up ?

If the ambient temperature is below a certain level, your AC will automatically switch off, or refuse to engage. This is entirely normal - in most cars this level is 3-4c.

Some cars have particularly annoying AC systems in which dampness remains in the condenser and when the AC is off air is still drawn through it, but collects the damp as the condenser is not engaged. This results in steamy windows and means you need to 'dry out' the AC. BMW's are prone to this, people who run AC on 24/7 will often find steamy windows the first time they start from cold in sub 3c temperatures - as its the first time the AC has been off.

Ah thats why its doing it then. Cheers - Nothing to worry about then, I hope.

Every car ive owned bar the merc's have done exactly the same, after some time recycled air seems to need refreshing after getting very moist.

Americans have it better here, a lot of A/C over there has a boost button which allows the cooler to drop below 0*C. It's useful when out in dry ridiculously hot deserts.

If the A/C isn't on because it's getting too cold, then the air outside will be dry, set it to hot, but use outside air, lowest fan setting.
