Were now in May and my room is getting very hot with all the computers and screens turned on at once, at night it's not any better, when I open my window I am invaded by thousands of insects all attacking my screens and lights.

So what is a good air conditioner to buy?, it doesn't have to be a cheap one, I would prefer one that wouldn't involve me knocking a whole in my wall.

Thanks,
Jack

Use them all the time in India, cause well, you'l get heat stroke if you don't :p
Daikin is an excellent brand. But a bit expensive. very silent though. Least what i've heard. Installing them in a new flat, but it's not ready yet, so haven't had first had experience. My dad does do his research though, and says that they are the best.

have hitachi in the current house, and they are brilliant as well :) Have both window ac's (knock a big hole in the wall and a bit noisy) and a split (very small hole for a tube, which goes to a unit set up outside. whisper silent. You have to check the light to see if it's even on) but there is obviously a price difference with window acs being much cheaper.

Now I have no idea about availability here, but do recommend those two brands :) As I remember, hitachi are a bit more reasonable price wise than daikin.

Oh, and almost all brands have both window and split options, so see what you like. but check building regulations etc. as to what the law is regarding knocking a hole or setting up a unit outside etc etc.

I have a bergdorf air con unit for my music room, because trust me it gets roasting in there in the summer. And my band and I can get sweaty anyway.

It's a hole through wall one, not sure of the model or anything, the bloke who installed it recommended the unit, cost around £700 including fitting, but i've had it over a year with no problems.

I bought a mobile aircon unit for home about 10 years back and to this day its the best electrical device I have every bought. I have been using it for the last 2 weeks in the bedroom and it gaurantees a deep sleep with fresh cool air.

Sorry to hijack the thread somewhat, but I'm also interested in getting a small air conditioner unit for my bedroom. The following 3 caught my eye:

1
2
3

I was just wondering which is the better out of the 3, and how the first one works since it doesn't say it has a water tank or anything.

Neither are air con units, they're just air coolers and they're absolutely rubbish. Unfortunately, it costs a fair amount more to pick up a small air con unit.

Thanks for your reply. I really don't want to spend much though given how much I'm going to be using it. Even so, they've got to be better than just using a fan, right?

Neither. They are not "real" air conditioning units but water/iced coolers that sometimes leave a stale smell about the place once the ice has melted etc. Somebody beat me to it.

What he says, avoid all 3, there a total waste of money. You will need to spend around £150-200 for a decent air con unit.

Makes sure it's an air conditioner not an "air cooler" which just blows air over a bucket of water and does absolutely nothing to the room temperature.

It needs to have a proper fridge unit to be worth the effort. I paid £400 for my floor stander 10 years back..........and it should have been £800 but was marked up wrong!!

No, you will be better off saving the money and sticking with a fan!

A decent air con unit should last you a long time, so it's a worth while investment. The best time to nab Air Con unit is when Summer is over!
