Air conditioning advice needed

I'm looking at getting air conditioning for my room. Now before people shout that it's pointless in the UK please read.

I have a small room (3.6 x 2.8 m) the windows are very small opening, I keep the door shut, I'd rather have the windows closed to reduce noise from outside and my music/movies being heard outside.

My room gets very hot with everything running, here is what's in my room.

60" plasma - gives off a lot of heat.
2 x amplifiers (Stereo and AV)
High end computer overclocked of course
HP Microserver
Subwoofer with amp
Modem and router and other things.

It doesn't need to be warm outside for it to get too hot in this room. Also I only have storage heaters which suck, I'm told these air con units cool very efficiently.

I'm looking at Mitsubishi SRK HG units.

2.6 Kw 9,000 BTU unit or
3.6 Kw 12,000 BTU unit

The seller suggests the 12,000 unit and it's only £50 more, should I go with his advice?

I tried some calculators and they say 9,000 is plenty for the room size, but I'm worried with the plasma I will need more.

If anyone with knowledge can help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

I recently had some Mitsubishi Electric approved installers around to quote for a multi-split unit (price was a joke, ended up buying the units from Saturnsales and installing myself) but for a room that was 6.4m x 4.2m with one 2.4m wide window and 2x external walls, the 3 people that came said the 9000 BTU / 2.5kw Zen unit I was looking at was perfectly suitable.

I queried re: 12k / 3.5kw as it wasn't much more and they said it would be less efficient and thus not needed.

I don't want to move the hot air round the room, I want to cool it.

I think you have to look at the core of the problem... Maybe you should consider WHAT produces the heat instead of dealing with the consequences??

The plasma makes lots of heat, get rid of it.
Are you a hot person? Get rid of yourself.

Results, cool room without the need of air-conditioner. simple.

Profit.

@OP - Where are you buying it from and who is installing your Air-Con?
Is your room on front of house or back of house? Where do you plan on putting the condenser unit?

You definitely don't need 12k for a room of that size.

I'm going to partly self install, an electrician friend will do the wiring, then the air con company will finish the piping and gas the system. Unit will be wall mounted on an exterior wall with the outside unit just the opposite side.

There's no reason why you can't do the whole lot yourself unless its a large multi split that requires a power supply larger than 13A.

Most decent splits will have the outdoor unit pre-gassed and in control of the mains power with a communication cable running between the two which means with some careful planning, there shouldn't need to be any internal cabling/pipe work exposed.

Just make sure to have your condensing outlet points downwards unless you're attaching a pump inline (gravity and all that jazz!)

Why do you need all the stuff in such a small room? Why not have your music quieter so you can have the door and window open or buy some headphones. Do you have all that stuff on all the time? Air con is not cheap to run and not really necessary. Sure it's starting to get a little warm but not a/c warm surely?

I didn't spend thousands on my Hi-fi and home cinema to play it quieter, I'm on a main road so having the windows open would mean I hear every car pass. I don't have it on all the time but half way through a movie the room is very hot. I think my body runs hotter than most too and I always prefer it cooler.

I heard the pre gassed units are illegal as to get the air out your have the purge the gas.

The newer pre charged units use quick connectors, so the lines are already vacced out and have a holding charge of refrigerant.

Thanks, the Mitsubishi SRK units are new but 2 installers told me they need special connectors, they said £100 if I part install it for them to finish it off.

Why not put that stuff into another room? Or are you a student?

I have a small flat, it costs me next to nothing, it's fully detached so no one complains if I play music very loud. I'll only move out when I can afford an attached house.
