Hey - looking for advice from those with AC installed in mid terrace houses. I have been looking at split unit wall mounted air conditioners and considered putting them above windows in each room (1x living room, 3x bedrooms) but I don't have a clue which units to go for in terms of best value for money, quality, look and whether it works in a mid terrace setup where I will likely need 2 compressors.

Here is a floor plan of my house. What would you guys recommend for units (brand, supplier, VFM, quietness, quality, low maintenance etc) and where would I likely place them and the compressors in this floor plan?

What sort of unit are you looking at? Only ones I've seen have fairly big fan units outside that would look pretty ugly by each window, is this like a mini system for each room?

Also how hot is your house? :p Last summer was a bit toasty but you could just get a portable unit for those exceptionally hot days.

Also please look at solar. When it's hot and sunny they can seriously help with the carbon impact of the AC.

Daikin do various ranges and the Emura range is good.

I assume all rooms will need cooling and heating at the same time as you can get multisplits which can run several rooms at once but you will need to ensure all are on cooling or heating, you can get VRV systems which allow heating and cooling simultaneously but I think these are only 3 phase .

You will need as others said speak with a professional company who can assess and look at the pipe run - you may need pumps to move the condensate away.

why the need for so many AC units? Where are you located?

surely you are better off putting these units in just the 1 or 2 rooms and sit/sleep in there when the weather gets extremely hot. Just feels like overkill looking at the amount of units you are looking to install.

Aircon in the UK lol

Its an air source heat pump (air to air), so also can be used as heating. In most circumstances it will be more efficient than an electric heater - COP of 1 vs heatpump with COP of ~3 (so 1kWh of electricity in produces 3 kWh of heating/cooling). Add solar panels into the equation (free/vastly reduced per unit electricity) and it gets very interesting very quickly.

There are many good and compelling reasons to consider it.

Strange comment

Not particularly, in context. I don't remember any radiators in the offices I've worked in, mostly floor to ceiling glass windows that can't be opened and aircon, bit of a different situation to the typical UK home though, not to mention plenty more humans per sq ft all generating heat and a bunch of computers, various servers int he server rooms etc..

In a small terrace house you can just stick the central heating on in the winter and open a window/put on a fan for the relatively few days of summer when it is sort-of hot weather.

No radiators as the aircon heats as well as cools.

Yes I know, it is there to keep a constant temperature and it is going to look a bit odd having a radiator attached to a glass window anyway!

In fact I'd suggest that most of the time the aircon was used for heating...

At home though I do have radiators, they're pretty good at what they do and zircon would seem to be a bit pointless.

Ignore the northern monkey's they are still chucking rocks at the big ball of fire in the sky.

Split units with the gubbins in the loft and vents into each room could be cheaper as they don't need to be pretty.

I have a Daikin split unit though only for main bedroom and it's superb, you can get them so one outside thing does several individual indoor things (get the idea I only have a vague idea about aircon? :p )
