Boohoo.

"Fully air conditioned" in our 2 week holiday rental turned out to be some ineffective underfloor cooling rubbish that doesn't do anything and it's 30C + down here in the south of France.

We've obviously immediately told the owner who's making all the right noises and called a French air conditioning "specialist", but it seems unlikely that he'll suddenly be able to turn a rubbish system into one that actually cools rooms.

We basically want to up sticks for the 2nd week and go somewhere that gives us what we paid for, but the T&C are all stacked in favour of the lessor, with clauses basically absolving the owner of any blame for technical / equipment issues.

We booked through a booking agent rather than an ABTA travel agent (as is typical for French gites), but then we don't know if we're being reasonable with our gripe...from our point of view we've paid for aircon we don't have access to, however others may feel we should just suck it up and open the windows (with the inevitable mosquito onslaught).

WWGDD?

While I can understand your chagrin, personally I’d make my way to a church, genuflect, and take a couple of minutes to thank the good Lord that I was in La République and not Angleterre.
Then I’d seek out an air conditioned bar or bistro, and partake of a few Kir Royales.

Worst "I'm on holiday" thread ever.

I gather there is a heatwave across the med at the moment. My brother in law and family are in Greece on their boat and it was still 29C at 10pm there a couple of days ago. You're probably screwed I'm afraid :(

I suspect the French air conditioning specialist is also the plumber, electrician, or the "expert" for anything else which needs doing.

OP, I would say that you're 50:50 here.

YANBU - because I would be teased off too if I was somewhere without a/c and it's 30-odd outside. You booked a place that stated it had a/c but it's not working / not as described. Also, regarding the sleeping comments on this thread, I don't sleep too well without a/c when it's 30 in the daytime and still in the 20s in the nighttime. In the recent UK heatwave, I had my a/c flat out day and night.

However, YABU because you elected to go to Southern Frence, where you knew it was probably going to be quite hot at this time of the year.
