Hi
Hope someone can give me a bit of advice please. I have the stock cooler on at present and although it does the job I would like to try to decrease temps if possible.

I purchased a CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 Evo a couple of weeks ago from OC for a project that never happened so spare now. I have tried fitting the cooler but the problem the base is smaller that the processor surface itself. My question to anyone listening is does the cooler ideally have to be the same or larger than the processor or does it not matter . I was going to install but whimped out and used the stock cooler.

Any comments gratefully received.

It will not be a problem. The processor die is substantially smaller than the heatspreader fixed to the CPU. Most coolers do not contact fully over the whole area either and the interface material may not cover the whole heatspreader.

Just ensure it is reasonably central and fixed down well.

Thanks very much for the reply. I may just get a better cooler anyway but at least my options are open.
