Hi chaps, sorry this is my first post just breezing in here,
so a big hello first and foremost.

Ive just had a PC built for me, its based on a Be Quiet 800 case.
X99-a with a 5960x which i have clocked to 4ghz - 1.1 volts.

All seems well and stable.

Im using this as my work PC, music production unit and currently its being cooled by the Dark Rock Pro 3 air cooler.
Now i can utilise the 8 primary cores under Cubase Pro8 and with other editing i do, having 4ghz is certainly nicer than stock 3ghz or even the TB 3.5

Thing is, im still a tad worried about cooling. The Dark Rock 3 is great for ambient temps. Its sitting around 35c at regular clocks and kinda doubles when under full speed load.
Would i be better off moving over to a simple 240mm AIO watercooling setup?? Is this air cooler going to be enough long term?

Im so scared about potential AIO cooler failing horror stories, versus will this actually drop the temps enough?
Your thoughts??

Aslong as your staying under 80c during 100% load over a prolonged period of time your fine m8

A premium air cooler will be just as good as most AIO coolers. AIOs are a bit of an emperor's new clothes sort of product, really. I'd stick with what you have.

Thanks guys that's really helpful. Ultimately, not changing from the dark rock was the most desirable option. Much appreciated!!

Most products have horror stories and failure rates.
If AIOs were THAT bad, you'd not get so many people still buying them.

As mentioned, high-end air coolers will perform about the same as an AIO, with the latter sometimes (depending on make/model) being notably noisier.
The main draw for AIOs is the lower space requirement and the easier installation of what is essentially a watercooling unit, along with some aesthetics if you have a nice one.

I went AIO because mine was on sale, working out about half the price of a top-end Noctua at the time. It's the noisiest thing in my case, but I still love it and I've gotten GREAT value for money.

If you're happy with your air cooler, no need to go changing.
35ºC is a bit high for my personal tastes (my overclocked CPU sits at 28-30ºC when idle), but I'm very fussy and nitpicky!! :D

The AIO's are good and you would benefit from lower temps I.e h110i gt, kraken x61. But if your not going over 80c and don't plan to overclock anymore there's no point.

AIO's are not unreliable and I've been really happy with the ones I've had. I always have core temp so I can monitor temps on a day to day basis. Mainly just to see the load temps.

Idle temps don't mean anything, it's the load temps you want to be interested in.

Thanks again for the info. Really appreciate. I've never once used water cooling so my curiosity was def peaking.
I'm not really worried about what it would look like or accessing inside.
I probably won't take this over 4Ghz to be honest. It is ploughing through my work load, so I'm better off staying put and not trying to push my luck lol

I'm basing idle temps off the hot weather we have at the moment, our apartment is steaming hot so we always get a room that's not ideal.
