Actually most of the buttons are used. The overhead panel is used to setup the different systems on the aircraft and as such are used a lot at the beginning and end of the flight. The buttons on the FMC (the keyboard like thing on the centre pedestal) are used all the time for inputting the route as well modifying it during flight. The buttons on the glareshield are the autopilot controls.

I have to agree with him. Being a pilot must be hugely demanding. Requiring great intelligence, levelheadedness and nuts of steel when dealing with so many lives.
How did you get into it? I take it you studied Maths or similar at Uni, then onto the £60K training?
