Airfix goes into administration

no

kids of today will expect it to bebuilt for them.

its a fast paced culture that wont have patience for anything.

i loved these too, i think my generation was just the bit before people got cheeky and lazy.

:p

I'm not surprised.. the price of the damn things.. I bought my son one this year. I told the shop keeper that I wanted the Airfix kit.. not the real thing :D

it's a shame, but the company itself is to blame. it didn't move with the times.
look at Lego, they adapted their core product to the newer generation, and branched out into computer games.

times change, and any business not capable of following isn't gonna last forever.

such a shame i had loads of them, computerised things are the thing now :(

And soon there will be no British people with any manual skill </sweeping generalisation>

I thought there was an Airfix computer game of some sort?

Yeah would be cool if they did a virtual model kit, that then became part of a flight sim type thing. THen you could add more planes as you built them.

i still remeber the first one i baught at southend air show A-10 Thunderbolt. Spent all the money i had made from carwashing on it hehehe. i must have been 10 or 11.

I dont think i ever managed to glue the "glass" cockpit bit in without coating it with a mess.

I've built 20+ model aeroplanes, used to love doing them when I was about 8 or 9. Real shame, there's still other modelling companies out there though so I'm sure it's not the end. I always found Airfix to be the highest quality model company though.

looks like they've come unstuck then  :p

Want me to hold the door open?

To me its no big loss, never actually made one as I was more into Games Workshop models for painting them, much more to do with that.

Its a shame when a big company goes, but nothing lasts forever.

You should be aware, the company isn't actually going under, or anywhere else for that matter. I've seen dozens of businesses go into administration and come out the other end a much stronger entity.

Airfix is a strong brand and I'd be very surprised if someone didn't buy it and continue making those crappy models.

Well what they need to do is have clubs where people go to build up there airfix models then hang them from places for people to shoot with air rifles, that is the best bit about building those models.

distroying them in ever more inventive ways,

seeing if they actually fly off a very high place
fire damage
but my favourite will always be anti aircraft fire from a 2.2 air rifle HOOAH
