I am looking at getting a new CPU cooler within the next month or so and am willing to pay about £70 max for one but I am stuck deciding between the Corsair H50 and a top of the range air cooler (still to decide). My most important temp in my system to me is my GPU temp as my 5850 is a good overclocker and I want to keep its temps as low as possible (which requires a good airflow) but from what I have seen you need to change your airflow in your case to make the rear an intake to pass by the H50 heatsink so my question is.....Would it be better to get a decent air cooler and keep my current airflow direction (front intake, rear and roof exhaust) for the sake of keeping my GPU cool or will making the rear and front intakes and the top an exhaust (for the H50) not make that much of a difference? Thanks

You could always mount the radiator from the H50 to your removable panel rather than the rear or upper port.

Or you could add a fan on both sides of the radiator to keep the air flow moving efficiently. You have loads of options mate.

Changing the airflow direction of the H50 isn't really worth it. Ive got mine just exausting from the back of my case and no problems. It just helps to get the temps that little bit lower if its getting completely fresh air, 2-3 degrees tops id say.

Also if you go for the H50 as exaust there will be less warm air floating about inside the case from the cpu cooler for your 5850 to suck in.

I would go for an air cooler. Thermolab baram with an apache fan (or a fenrir) should be the same as or better than the h50 and you dont have to worry about changing the air flow.

the temperature difference is minimal between different air flow direction, so just leave it exhausting - or, as an intake on the side panel, if you can.
