hi all,

i was just considering the airflow design of my rig and after looking at HiCookie's oc guide for the ex58-extreme I'm thinking about changing my flow..

Current:
Fan->Sink->Case Fan->Outside

Prop1:
Sink->Fan->Case Fan->Outside

Prop2:
Fan->Sink->Fan->Case Fan->Outside

Prop3:
Outside->Case Fan->Fan->Sink->Exhaust via top 200mm fan

Prop4:
Outside->Case Fan->Fan->Sink->Fan->Exhaust via top 200mm fan

any opinions... :D

How many spaces for fans have you got? Figured you have a top exhaust, rear exhaust, front fan and of course the heatsink... any others?

My case is currently set up with 2x120mm intake at the front, 1x120mm side exhaust, 1x120mm rear exhaust and 1x140mm top exhaust. PSU also has a 120 ish exhaust, and my temps are very good at the moment. Admittedly, i don't have the same chip as you, but the airflow should work the same way.

Gonna need to replace my rubber fan pins soon, so i'm gonna get a dust filter and change my side to an intake to see what kind of difference that makes.

Wow, thats a lot of fans.

Way I'd do it now is to balance them. Try this...

Top 200mm exhaust. (heat rises, so this makes sense... in practice it doesn't really matter, but this is the norm)

Front 200mm. Intake Blows air over HDD's to keep them cool.

Side 200mm Intake. Blows air over gfx card, which will blow air outside. Gets good amounts of air from this fan and the front one.

Bottom... Not necessary. Bottom mounted PSU?

120mm Rear. Exhaust. Have your CPU fan sending the air towards the back of the case... most rear fans match the height of the cpu fan, so this works.

CPU blowing towards rear, or top. As long as it sends air towards an exhaust fan, all is ok.

This setup gives you a good airflow of front to back, all over the case. Any setup should work as long as you don't have any fans that are pushing opposite to another fan nearby.

Make sure ALL intake fans have dust filters, and clean them out maybe once a week, as they quickly get clogged.

yeah thats pretty much what i've got...

which side of the HS should the fan be... pushing or pulling air through... or have two so constant flow over fins is maintained....

p.s. thnx for the reply :)

will try moving GPU down to second x16 slot, swapping CPU fan to over side, moving ram cooler more centrally to modules, remove bottom fan.

purchase y-cable from akasa and arctic silver 5

rock n' roll baby
