Is anyone else here an Airmiles collector?

If so then come 16 November you'll no longer collect Airmiles, but Avios(es?), and you'll also wave goodbye to completely free flights as you'll be charged for all fees, taxes, airport surcharges etc on top of spending your points.

I've only been collecting Airmiles for about a year, if that, and I've got a tally of ~1,200. I do only plan on using them to fly to Europe so the £27 flat fee isn't too bad, but still a shame.

I know lots of people are spending their miles before the change and before they devalue, and you have up until 16 November (online) or 16 December (phone) to do this.

I've been collecting American Airlines miles for a while now (fiancee lives there) and the rule has always been you pay the taxes and surcharges. A "free" flight is about £100 in taxes - what's new now?

Edit: Oh right this is Airmiles as in the brand, rather than just new generic rules for all airmiles.
