Ok, so I have a ton of Virgin Atlantic airmiles. Virgin have a "joint venture" with Air France and KLM who are Skyteam members airlines.
We're going on holiday soon and flying with Vietnam Airlines (the only direct flights from London, unfortunately). Vietnam are part of Skyteam also.
I feel like it's worth earning these miles (if only Skyteam ones) as there are rumours that Virgin may join Skyteam at some point. Unlikely, but why not earn them anyway right?
What's the best way to make these miles useful to me? I'm most likely to fly KLM or Virgin again. Should I sign up with KLM Flying Blue, earn miles for my Vietnam flight, then would they ever be transferrable/usable for Virgin?
Who knows. I'm confusing myself... Or do I have to sign up for Vietnam Airline's Lotus miles to earn with them? How does Skyteam work exactly?
