I just hope it's nothing to do with terrorism, girlfriend is on holiday in Spain and I hate flying at the best of times! :(

Rest in peace, 50 people snubbed out in an instant. :(

Edit: Just heard on BBC news that it's 49 casualties and 1 survivor.

I would doubt very very much it's terrorism.

im not sure if its due to the terrorism efforts recently that more plane crash's are being brought to the news with speculation that they might have terrorists behind them, but either way with the number of planes going down recently i really dont want to fly home this thursday :(

Traditionally August is the month with the largest amount of incidents due to August being the busiest flight month. More flights = more chance for stuff to go wrong.

People said the same thing last year when several flights went down within a short time of each other.

170 died in a Russian plane crash last week...

yet some people on this forum are prepared to return to pre-WW2 racial segregation in a misguided fear of terrorism, when 2 planes have crashed in a little over a week resulting in 220 deaths.

The number of terrorist plane take-downs are a fraction of the total planes lost due to weather or mechanical issues.

I honestly do not understand you. How many planes have crashed over the last month? I think (although I maybe wrong) that around 2 have gone down. How many planes have actually flown over the last month? I'd say a lot more than two.

would you not agree that a lot more plane related scares/issues/accidents/diversions etc. have been on the news and such? maybe its just that the average plane crash, if there is such a thing, doesn't always make mainsteam news and these are just getting to the news because of the recent plot to blow up several planes... i dunno

Its been said August is the month for high air traffic, which makes sense so i guess the number of accidents go up accordingly, never thought of it that way.

You're saying you dont understand why people are hesitant to fly? i've met several couples who have said that the recent things going on with planes being used as weapons has put them off flying when it can be avoided... one couple said they plan to drive from Canada instead of flying down to the hotel we're both staying in, in America.

The BBC said:
Aviation experts said there were indications that Flight 5191 may have taken off from the wrong runway, one that was too short to handle that type of plane.

The plane was supposed to take off from a 7,000ft (2.1km) runway, but aviation experts have told news agencies that the position of the plane on crashing suggested it might have used a 3,400ft (1 km) runway instead.

At least one person screwed up, probably more than one, if the above is true.
