Understand that the Onkyo I have (TX-NR525) does not have Airplay functionality natively.

A fair few of my friends are followers of the fruit firm and have many of thier stuff and when they come round, would like to for them to be able to play their media via the amp / speakers / tv set up.

What would be the easiest and cheapest way of achieving this?

At present amp is wired to the home network via a 1 Gbps 8 port switch (4 spare ports) and then through a 1 Gbps homeplug (does not achieve full rated speed, but is fast enough)

You could connect an Airport Express to the network and then to the receiver via TOSLINK (Toslink to Mini Digital Optical SPDIF)?

Cheers Rossi.

Looking at it would probably go for samlly jack to 2 x RCA connectors as the X-Box is currently using the optical connection.

Would mostly be music being played anyway, so not that much need for the surround sound

Yeah could do that also, you'll just be using the Airport as the DAC though, which will be worse than the receiver. But if you only have 1 optical port then you don't really have a choice :p
