Not sure if the lighting is the same but my USB-C ones needed the apple cable to work, using a USB-C to 3.5 didnt work.
Wired mode only work on the USB-C AirPod Max not the lightning ones.

@Feek sorry to be a fun sponge but these headphones are terrible wired in my experience - the slightest knock, bristle or movement causes excessive and unbearable microphonic noise. I was excited to try it but found it unusable, even sat at a desk plugged into my pc. Just felt like someone was unpleasantly poking me in the ear every time I moved.
