Basically, I have all my av gear upstairs and my current router doesn't send the signal far enough to enable me to connect all my gear! moving the router isn't an option as there is no other phone socket in the house!

as an apple fan the obvious thing for me would be either of these, if they work for what i need them to? also wouldn't mind being able to connect my HDD to it to share on the network etc!

Which of these is best for my needs? do they both pick up the signal and repeat it or am i completely missing the point of these?

Airport Extreme Base Station doesn't (as far as I know) repeat an existing wireless signal.

Homeplugs and a cheap switch might suit your needs though?

how does that work. annoyingly the signal is only about 2 metres short! and mother will not let me leave the router in the hall because it looks messy lol

Basically it sends a network signal using the existing power cables in your house.

Plug one in by the router, cat 5 between the two. One in your room and then either cat 5 to a wireless switch or direct to your device.

Parents in law use it with their BT Vision box, on their old wiring in their old house it works very well.

interesting. I bet i can't buy it all from pc world though can i? i have a voucher to use lol.

what type of switch do i need? sorry I'm out of touch with all this now :( (i sound old)
