I'm looking to replace my current BT Hub 5 (working in just router mode with a Huawei 612G), and I was wondering if the Airport Extreme was still a decent replacement given that it's now about 3 years old.

I will be connecting an external USB 3.0 drive to it for Time Machine back-ups for my Mackbook Pro, iPad and iPhone. Will the USB 2.0 port be much of a hindrance once the initial back-ups have been completed?

Also on the network will be a Win10 tablet and Sky TV box, and I will also be plugging in a Win10 media PC (HP 260 G1) and my BT TV box.

I can pick up an open-box deal for around £85 from a reputable retailer.

If you have no gaming devices you will be absolutely fine, and even then you can stick one into the DMZ. Wireless on these is very good and they seem to be very reliable.

It's a great router but transfer speeds over the USB port are super slow and I don't think that Time Machine is officially supported with external drives.
