Hi

Is the Apple airport extreme a good choice over something like the Asus ac68u.

Im looking to upgrade my Asus n66u soon and was thinking of getting another Asus router or the likes but then I thought about the Apple router.

Has anyone got one, worth it?

Thanks

Depends on what devices you're using. Apple use NAT-PMP rather than uPnP, so multiple games consoles would be a problem, as only one can be in its DMZ. There are far more features on a router like the Asus too.

Airport extreme made sense years ago when proper 3x3:3 AC-basestations were hard to find and expensive. Now other manufacturers have upped their game and there is less reason to get airport.

For someone using a mac, I can recommend time capsule as it makes backing up the mac a breeze. However, separate nas-devices handle that as well, so 3rd party solutions have become viable also.

I was using an Extreme but repaced it a few months ago with an Asus AC3200 because I wanted the extra configurability to set up a VPN for Netflix from Apple TV.

The Extreme is OK in an Apple environment until you want something more than the basic routing.
