Hi,

Have there been any minor/major OSX updates in the past week that may affect Airport, or its ability to connect to a wireless network? :p

For the past 2 days our 2010 iMac is unable connect to my wireless network. It can see the network, but times out when it tries to connect. Router configuration and Airport settings have not been changed. We've had no problems in the past 5 months either which is odd.

FYI our old laptops can connect no problems (posting from work laptop) from the same location within the house.

I'm going to log onto the router in a bit and check the config, maybe change the channel as there are an awful lot of Sky networks in the area - prob won't make much difference though.

Any suggestions/advice?

Cheers,

Grant

Changing channels, as you suggested is your best bet. About a week ago my Macbook Pro, and 1 other machine I have stopped connecting via WiFi, whilst two other machines stayed the same. This has happened to me before. Both times it saw the network, but constantly prompted me to authenticate and then "connection timeout"

A long time ago I was happy on channel 1 of my router. MBP stopped connecting so I changed that to channel 3. Since last week that no longer works either. Channel 11 seems to work although gives me really slow speeds of approx 200k a sec. Channel 6 works fine and lets me max out at about 1.6 megabytes per sec, which is the max my ADSL line does.

All I can surmise is the wifi card/chipset in this laptop is a bit crap (so is the one in my other machine but that is about 6+ years old), as it has happened twice now. I do have about 6-8 networks within range, but most of those are on 6 or 11. Also this was not linked to 10.6.4 update as I installed that before this issue occurred

I have got a spare router lying around, but have not bothered trying that as the channel change helps, for now. My router is a Netgear DG834GT.

Well.... changing channel appears to have resolved the problem (posting from my iMac!).

I think the main problem is, there are 9 wi-fi networks within range here - mostly Sky so I'm fairly sure there must be some channel conflict!

Cheers anyway... fingers crossed this holds out :)
