Having multiple issues with my Galaxy alarm setup so i am looking to rip out and set up afresh with the Ajax system.

I had some questions in case anyone knew the answers?

  1. The only difference between hub plus and hub2 plus panel seems to be the Wings protocol to send images? If i dont need images, i can just go with hub plus panel?
  2. 2G/3G being discontinued this year, does the hub 1 plus cater for 4g sim?
  3. What type of sensor is best suited for an up and over garage door? Door protect plus or would normal door sensor be fine?
  4. The dry contact relay, can i use this to connect my existing wired siren to sound when alarm activated? Would save me purchasing a new siren
  5. Does keypad plus compatible with hub 1 plus? I see on the fb forums someone mentioned it wasn't compatible,

Anything else i should be aware of?

Sort of. See the next question about LTE/4G support. Personally, I wouldn’t.

No, it’s 2G/3G only.

The only benefit yiu would see with the plus is that if the person breaking in was capable of fooling the contact they couldn't fool the tilt sensor. Both will work, the plus just gives you ‘belt and braces’ protection. For the extra couple of pounds for the plus, I’d get the plus.

Yes, but Ajax is meant to work as a total system, so buy the parts. You say you’re having issues with your existing system, trying to bodge Ajax onto it probably won’t give you less trouble than you have now.

Keypad plus works with Hub plus, Hub 2 Hub 2 plus and Hub 2 hybrid. If by Hub 1 plus you mean Hub plus then yes, it will work. But you really don’t want to buy a Hub plus in 2023.

Ajax is dirt cheap in alarm terms. You might be able to save £50 on a £300 install by buying someone’s old stock parts but you’re just conning yourself. Spend the money now, and have several years operation, or save £50 now and spend £150 in 2025 when it stops working.

2G isn't being switched off imminently but time is ticking on it - 3G is starting to be phased out already and over the course of the next 12 months likely most support will disappear. I'd be kind of surprised if 2G does go away within the next few years though as so much uses it as a fallback.

And knowing what you know, would you recommend someone buy a new alarm system today that didn’t do 4G?

Tricky one actually - in some ways it would be short sighted but given the amount of commercial systems which use 2G as a fail over from 3G and don't support 4G which don't have 4G replacements coming any time soon I just can't see a 2G switch off happening in the next few years. The personal safety, etc. devices we use at work are built to meet specific standards (for instance BS 8484:2016) with long development lead times on the replacements - though from a quick Google some 4G products of this nature are starting to appear tagged as "future proof".

@WJA96

Sorry to hijack someone else thread.

Would you able to spec me an AJAX system?

I have already got hilook 4k cameras installed (2 at front of property, 4 at the back (covering both ground and first floor extension, 1 at side covering ground floor bathroom window).

2 entrances: 1 front door, 1 bifold at the back: windows and floorplan as shown.

Ajax have a system configuration on their website.

If you any queries on sensor choice etc. then ask, but it’s really easy to do your configuration yourself.
