AJAX + PHP

Has anyone used this combination for anything? Some of the stuff that we do on our intranet at work uses AJAX/.NET and it looks pretty slick. I'm wanting to try it on some of my own stuff but haven't got a clue where to begin. Has anyone got any links to helpful guides explaining how to use AJAX with PHP?

I've had a quick Google but everything I've found so far really makes my head hurt :/

There's a library a colleague is successfully using at the moment, called XAJAX. Only used it briefly myself, but it handles the javascript side for you and makes AJAX application development really simple.

Thanks guys, those links are v helpful. I'm just giving the XAJAX thing a try now, I wish I'd spent the time to learn Javascript now :/
