Bleh how annoying, I purchased one an hour before this got posted, so paid the higher price :( Though it does look the part. Just need to see if the B-grade mobo I bought with it works. Did notice some AS5 still on the CPU clip,
 
Sorry to jump into this thread...but....how easy is it to put a an extra fan on this to make it a push pull system? If it is worth it, which one, and the best way of mounting it? Has anybody put an extra one on?

Unfortunately with this product, you cannot make it operate in the push/pull setup.

It is a very good product whilst it lasted, but I eventually replaced it with something that was easier to mount, allowed push/pull setup and enabling clocking of up to 3.8Ghz. I'm contemplating of gettnig myself one of them primotech ones now. It's the best air cooler on the Market at the moment.

I always prefer bkacplate mount/fixing over push pin. I don't want to risk damaging boards by pushing it in too hard :<

1. What is preventing it being used as a push/pull setup? Technical reasons? Remember it has been fitted for 5 months now, and I was looking to drop the temperatures down a little. See below.

2. Perhaps I dont need to go push/pull as I have set the fan speed in the BIOS as maximum and that is giving me 1680 RPM all the time.

3. Under idle the average at 3.9ghz (24/7) for all cpu's is 43 degress C. Using the intel burn test, the highest ever seen is around 75 degrees with an average throught out the test being 70 degrees. How does this fair against your installation?

I can only give you my experience from when I had this cooler.

It was cooling nicely at about 54-58c and that was without any overclocking.

1.Problem why you cannot arrange it to do push and pull is because of the way it is designed.

At the top of the heatsink it has 2 grooves to allow you to thread the rubber fan mounts on to it. If only they had two more on the other side.. so yes, it was due to the technical side. :(

2. you can have your fan set on high, but it will be very noisey unless you get yourself a decent fan. I recommend you use either the: Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm or Noctua NF-P12 Vortex-Control 120mm Quiet Case Fan. I got the Noctuas because they were the best until the Akasa came out and knocked them out of the top spot.

3.If you are going anywhere as high as 3.9 and want to push it into 4Ghz or more, this HS wouldn't be ideal.. I'm using the Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler, but even that is recommended for clocking up to 3.8 only...
The best you can currently buy is: Prolimatech Megahalems Performance CPU Cooler which enabled clockers to push the i7 to over 4Ghz and have it safely run 24/7.

i7 is a gem and you should look after it,I really wouldn't recommend u in choosing a cheap heatsink whilst pushing this cpu so hard. Your system will become unstable and you will be risk damaging your chip.

I personally recommend you to pair up the Prolimatech Megahalems with a couple of Akasa AK-FN057 Apache fans. They are both on promotion this week. You should read up on it, you will be amazed at how well this particular heatsink performs. It is also used by OcUK as one of their overclocked 4Ghz i7 bundles.
