Just picked up a Akasa Amber 12cm to replace the Thermaltake Thunderblade, just wondering is it safe to power this fan off my motherboard header chassis fan, or should I just use the molex connector?

0.18A, 2.16W

ok, is the supplied molex to 3 pin connector come with a RPM sensor wire?, or is that the power wire? Or both? It has the outer two wires (middle is missing)

4 pin molex doesn't support RPM monitoring.

The fan itself is 3 pin, but suppled with the fan is a 3 pin female to 4 pin molex to 2 wire (3 pin) mobo fan header. So do you use the molex for power and the 3 pin for rpm, or don't use the molex and use 2 pin to mobo for power and RPM?

I have some of those fans but I've never tried the adaptor.
It's probably a generic adaptor that will adapt both male and female 3 pins to be powered from a 4 pin supply.
The middle wire on a 3 pin is the sensor wire.

Just power it straight from the mobo header if you want RPM monitoring.

Use the adapter

1 it does show the rpm, how ever ya mobo still winge like all women do about fan seed being too low

2nd more power to you mobo means more oc'ing and more stable to run all fans off psu not mobo

Drazic is making a good point there.

I run all my case fans through a fan controller and even run my CPU fan through a 3 to 4 pin adaptor with an rpm sensor wire going to the motherboard to show the fan speed. Everything works great.
