Hi All

Was it a figment of my imagination or did I see a review for a Akasa Mirage case a in CustomPC a few months ago
The case was just the old Eclipse with a new alloy front, but I always liked the way that the old case looked, even if it was about 3 years old :)
I've had a look about for the case but OCuk don't seem to have them along with a number of other places.
Has any body actually managed to track down this Black Box to somewhere???

Coming out in a few months.

It is the same case as it was when Globalwin designed it back in 2000 for low end servers I think, they may have copied another design, but it was a beige eclipse, and then Savrow made it slightly better, and the Akasa version we have now. (Info is a little shakey as I was not a case nutter in 2000 :p)

The Mirage should be out in a few months, not out at the moment though to my knowledge!

Just had a quick look, the body is identical to the Eclipse, just they've changed the front panel to something alu, with a plastic door, and they've ditched the PCI slot on the front of the case..

I don't like doors on cases really, so the Eclipse suits me better...even slightly tempted to get one, as it might provide better cooling than my Yeong Yang 0221 :)

Apparantly the eclipse design evolved as :

Lian-Li case in the 80s (so im told)]
Globalwin in the 90s
Akasa/Savrow in the 00s

im not sure on the LL connection, but its been stressed to me that the basic design was LL server case

This case, and it's less propular siblings is, has and I'm sure always will be manufactured by YCC. If you buy 150 YCC will make whatever you like - alloy front, yellow finish, leopard spots - you name it.

It was never a Lian Li - it's just the design has been imported into the UK by various different people over the years.

It's still the best server case under £100 in my opinion - even if it is GENERIC!

Wow it goes back further than Globalwin, never knew that one!

We are missing a load of Qtec branded ones with coke can steel obviously, they will be about somewhere!

The Savrow version was the best, just because of its name. :D

I heard that the door on the front was aluminum, if its not i probably wont get one as it'll be no better than the eclipse. I don't really like doors on cases but id make an exception for the mirage door as it looks good but only if its alloy.

Seems that Globalwin and YYC are the same people. Here is a link to what I got Black 61f1. I got them to send me the totally clear side panel, a set of wheels and the temperature display (thought it might have been black, but no it was sliver and ended up on the members market).

The case was obtained around the time that CustomPC magazine had rated the Savrow one as their best case (and I think in a issue or so before it they had said it was an awesome case but you could get it easily in the UK). I got lucky and got a cheap one in clearance because of the missing feet and it being a customer return.

No-one knows what the Akasa Mirage will be like. There are at least 4 beta/approval models floating around the UK top-level resellers (Ingram Micro etc.) and one is all alloy, one has a completely plastic front, one has two 120mm fans in the side panel and one has a 140mm or 180mm turbine fan in the side panel depending on who you believe.

I'll wait and see what comes out. Cases very rarely seem to get better as they are revised, but that's usually because the revision actually involves charging the same as before for a case that is significantly cheaper to mass produce (either in build quality or materials).

The only case I know to get better with time are the Lian Li PC7+II and the v**00+ cases.

The Cheiftec Dragon/Scorpio have got worse, Coolermaster 201 to Praetorian...

I feel a new thread title coming on...

The new Jeantech Phong is a piece of junk too.

Cheer up though - the new Lian-Li's are coming soon apparently!

MicroATX for me!

Chickening out of the big boys league then eh? :p

Yeh the new Lian Li cases should be some new cases to play with, been a real lack of decent potential cases in the recent months, the last one was the TJ07!

Should revive the wallet with dust on it sitting on my desk, been almost 12 months since my main rig had a new case.

From memory I just emailled the USA sales team (see the Contact Us page on the globalwinusa site) and they let me buy one direct from them. Shipping was reasonable and they where dead easy to deal with.

Apparantly thats the way they are sold in the USA - clear side panel and temperature monitor.

i have the eclipse62, i really want the new front panel as i transport it a lot and my current one has many dents scratches and snapped off peices.

IIRC WJA96 was sorting out some Aluminum Eclipse fronts out, I'm not sure how that is going but might be worth a look. Mine has a few very light scratches that I'm going to try and polish out.
