Does the Venom come with thermal paste sufficient for the task of applying to a 2600k cpu, or would I need to buy some paste?

Thanks.

The Venom has Akasa Thermal Compound applied so probably ok, OCUK sell it but if you are going to overclock use somthing like MX4 which has better performance.

Mine also came with a little packet of white paste, that went straight into the bin and AS5 was applied.

Agreed - Mine too! But I'm sure if the OP was keen to get going, it would serve a purpose and tide him over until he managed to get something with a bit higher spec. Can't remember if I used AS5 or MX-3 though -to be honest, I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference at the end of the day...

Just as a follow up - this inspired me to go back and check the seating/TIM on my venom. Took it off, cleaned up and removed the excess. I ended up putting a very minimal amount of TIM on the base of the cooler (filling in the gaps between the heat-pipes), then putting in the two lines of TIM as suggested in the link

As a result, my CPU is running a good 8-10C cooler than before.

Mug happier about the performance now - I was considering ditching it and getting something more 'conventional' like a Megahalems. Looks like I've saved myself best part of £50!

Thought I'd share my experience....
