I am thinking of purchasing a set of these for gaming anyone had any experience with them, or it their anything better for upto the £150 mark? Also I have a 7.1 Madcatz meadset at the moment do you think that I would miss the extra speakers going back too just stereo?

Grab the K612, it is cheaper, better frequencie response and has better soundstage depth.

The K702 has a more refined treble but it's not something you will notice in games. The K612 also has better low end extension so those deep bass notes will produce a nice rumble.

I've got the K701 laying around somewhere which is similar to the K702 and in direct comparison I prefer the K612 as an all rounder.

or you can do the bass port mod on the K702 (just removing two sticky pads) which increases the bass response by about 5db, which puts it into K712 territory.

Even if the K612 has more sound stage depth (which is questionable) the K702 beats it easily in sound stage width.

It is wider by a little if we are talking left and right but it doesn't sound as natural. The 612 sounds perfectly round and I'd personally always pick a more coherent soundstage for gaming.

The K612 also has more linear bass extension and goes lower than the K712 so less interference than the bass port mod. When I first reviewed the K612 a few years back I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now. The bass extension, coherent soundstage and smoother, extended treble makes it hard to pick another AKG over it. I want to try the Annie pads on it.

I like the K702 though for games, it's a good headphone but you miss out on that low end rumble on games like The Last Of Us. The K702 is a superior driver but it's frequencie response isn't and when it comes to games, the advantages of the K702 can't really be heard but the gains of the K612 can.

Switching between them for competitive Gaming I found no difference tracking people.

I was going to buy a set of Annie pads for my K702 but as I only use them for gaming I eventually decided it wasn't worth the £70 or whatever ridiculous price they are charging these days. As for music, my love affair with the HD650s is as strong as ever, I don't think I will ever get rid of them - which is just as well as I just sprung for a new TV.

They are ridiculous in price. The Lamb leather LCD pads are the same price. I remember putting Annie pads on the K501 and also switched the foam over and it was wonderful sounding, I don't think it's worth getting Annie pads if you have the 650. If you buy some extra foam, cut a hole the size of a 5p on both sides so the driver shows. Take the back grill off and get something small to poor out the back foam gently you can make the 650 a bit more airy, defined with a few db less mid bass and it sounds really good, I still prefer the warm goodness of stock though.

I'm in a similar boat but with my PC. When I added a GTX 960 sound card to the build came to like £870 and that's without a good graphics card, although I do have my Mixamp + Mojo so that can wait I guess. Things are getting expensive so no room for more headphones although there's not much worth looking since I've blacklisted Audeze haha.

I just made a trade with a friend, my K701(He like the austria made stuff) for his K702 and I have to say Ridz you are correct the K702 actually does not bad in depth were as the K701 has a more of a gap and a huge left to right. K702 gives up a little width for better depth. The 701 and K702 are more different than I remembered in that regard.
