Aladdin (Disney live action, May 2019)

You don't have to watch it etc.

I think remakes like this are great personally...it's been a couple of generations since the original and it looks a bit naff by today's standards.

I was 13 when I saw Beauty and the Beast in cinema in 1991 and I thoroughly enjoyed the 2017 remake, so I'm looking forwards to seeing what Disney will do with Aladdin remake. I think it's good that they're catering to the newer and older generations at the same time.

As for the social media melt down, let them melt down. It's a film. A fantasy film. Fiction. Let's not politicise it.

Hard to imagine this without Robin Williams!

I can't say I think much of the live action remakes they've made so far, I feel like they lack a lot of the charm and humour the originals had. I am old now though, so my view might be somewhat tainted by nostalgia.

Live action film, 99% of that trailers CGI :p

I encourage everyone to watch (on youtube) the Nostalgia Critic's reviews of the remakes of both 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'The Jungle Book'. His reviews are spot on - weird disjointed tones, dropping the charm of the cartoon originals, padding the story then condensing the most integral parts of the story. Visually interesting but otherwise... ehhhh.

Still, I don't dislike the idea of the remakes in principle. Hopefully this one will be great!

I don't envy anyone the task of being the Genie, but Will Smith is probably about as good a choice as you are going to get if he is allowed any creative freedom.

Aladdin was always "my" Disney film growing up. I remember listening to the soundtrack on cassette tape endlessly. I finally saw the stage show a couple of weeks ago and thought it was great. The trailer for this is... not inspiring. They should have got the guy from the stage show to be honest, he was excellent. I'm not normally one to rage against casting choices but Will Smith just does not suit this role in my opinion.

This and Lion King are just doomed to fail. Simply milk the cow I'm afraid. Like has been said above you cannot replace Robin Williams. Just like you cannot replace Rowan Atkinson and Jeremy Irons in the Lion King.

Disney in the early 90's was a truly special place to be.

Some films do better as animation and not live action especially in the Disney franchise.

Jungle Book is a good example and this looks like another. As does the lion king.
