I've been checking the tinternet out looking for a new clock radio. The essential features I need are;

1. That its compatible with the iPhone 3G
There seem to be a lot out there which say 'universal dock' and 'compatible with all ipods' but are a little silent on the iPhone. Some shops even contradict each other on the compatibility of the same clock radio.

2. FM and AM radio
Need both, not just FM.

3. Headphone out jack
I listen to the radio or the iphone at night before I fall asleep. It has to be through earphones not to disturb the wife. (In fact I prefer it as it helps block out any noises from neighbours, etc.)

With so many people sharing beds with their partners I dont understand most alarm clock radios out there can only be heard through speakers and dont have a headphone jack. Are most designers single? :)

I'll carry on looking, but everything up to now is lacking at least one of the three, and number 1 is a doubt with almost all of them. Maybe someone here has already had to look for something similar and found it.

Budget ideally is £50 or £60.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Take a look at the Gear4 stuff, you can get there stuff at Apple Stores and HMV, the fancy auction site may have something, and that shop thats named after a river.
Most of there alarm / clock / radios are iPhone compatible, and reasonably priced.

Have a look at Sony's ICF-C1IPMK2. I have one and looking at it, it doesn't seem to have headphone out jack but it has an audio in jack. Other than that, it does what you're after in your first two points and it's within your budget :)

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

mikeossy: I saw the Gear4 stuff, thought I'd found what I wanted but the store I saw it on and the manufacturer's site contradict each other on the campatibility with the iPhone 3G. I've sent e-mails to both, so maybe they will clarify this in a positive way.

Cybertronic: Thanks. I quite like that one, but the headphone out is a must.
