Alarm over EU 'Great Firewall' proposal

They'd be better off commissioning a service people could sign up to if they felt they needed the protection. Those that do not need/want the service can surf the web freely as intended.

yeah, not good at all.

easy to get round with sll vpn's etc but a lot of work just to do what you want!

Thats all well and good, but when/if this europe wide censorship is implemented and people start migrating to ssl vpn's they will just introduce more laws that require the companies selling the vpn's to not allow there services to be used for illegal copyright.

The worse part to this, is the slow tiptoe towards a police state!

I had no mention about illegal material, i was meaning just basic web browsing etc. So say we dont like a certain president/person/situation etc, this firewall will be able to filter out our content to ensure we dont say a bad word about people they like etc. This is just a example, could be other types of instances.

VPN services across the world do not have to comply to what the EU say aswell so no bother about that regarding services they provide.

It might/might not be happening already however im sure a place like the USA would not allow it due to the 5th amendment etc etc

In essence, its net neutrality.....hit everyone

The internet should be free - but if the governments absolutely WANT to make money off of us users, then they should just set an indefinitely 'fixed' tax off of ISP's per every connection/account that they have, and, never pursue such unpopular agendas with all the content provision and firewall stuff...

I think I wouldn't mind paying a 50p fee, if it NEVER changes, as a tax on broadband, in exchange for knowing that they'll never ever mess with it and make limited. Too much to ask?

Not sure why no one in Gov. has thought of that, but common sense is in no way common...
