Alarm system?

just read that most uk telcos are killing off 3g this year and early next. Does it mean the hub plus (with 3g backup) is DOA when it comes to 3g? I guess it will fall back to 2g but if one is installing a new installation i guess it doesnt make sense to install the hub plus but we should go straight to hub 2/+ right?

Hub 2 is being released in 2G and 4G versions later this year so you can get a Hub 2 to suit your region.

I generally supply the remote control “SpaceControl” for elderly people because they are used to locking and unlocking a car with a key fob. It’s the same thing, they’re just locking or unlocking their house. And the alerts pop up on their phones or tablets automatically so no need for much training really. The biggest issue is when they want the panic button enabled. Nightmare!

Yes I tend not to enable panic buttons on Space Controls if I can help it. I'd sooner install DoubleButtons for Panic.

On my home system I have given my mum a SpaceControl for ease of access. Everyone else uses Tags and a KeyPad Plus which have worked out very well, especially with one-touch arming.

thanks, Id be looking for the 4g version , no point installing the 3g version which wont work for very long (the 4g bit)

What do you see as the major benefit of LTE over 2G? The actual data sent is miniscule and you get a better, uncontended, signal usually with 2G.

Most data is sent over the wired or WLAN ethernet connection using fixed line broadband.

And the LTE versions of the hubs are more expensive.

It is a good point, the mobile network is "backup" ...
For some people yes, but in certain geographies, it is the primary connection path. Plus we are seeing more installs in vans, caravans, motorhomes using mobile connections. There are a couple of installers who do a home and van install together. The MotionProtect is placed in the van and connected to the house alarm. If the van gets broken into the house alarm goes off.

I've got a Pyronix Enforcer that came with the house. The control box has just started sounding off quite loudly at random times day and night complaining about the siren battery power. So i need to change them out. I really don't do heights very well and they put the siren box as high on the building as they could manage which i'm not thrilled about, but i'm not paying someone to open a flap and swap a battery over!. I'm of the belief that sirens are a waste of time these days and just annoy the neighbourhood should they go off. Id rather shut the whole thing down but every component seems to have battery backup and tamper switches so i'm not sure I can just cut the cables.

Just go into the engineer menu and remove the siren. It will stop notifying you. No need to go up a ladder. I think that it is under Control Bells, you can just delete the Deltabell sounder.

@WJA96 You experienced this before?
Our Ajax alarm panic noise just went off because the Ethernet is "not connected" (it is, we were in the office at the time, router sees it as a client etc). It also says Cellular Data is off and Wi-Fi is off, yet I am still able to arm/disarm remotely and it notified me to say the hub lid was opened etc?! So it clearly is connected somehow??

Oh cheers, didn't think of that! so the internal motion sensors will still kick off and the internal alarm will go, just not the outside one. I think that's a happy medium as the Mrs still likes the idea of setting the alarm when we go out.

No, I've never even had a call-back on an Ajax install. I believe @SimonR is the man to ask.

My test Hub went offline earlier, and I got an alarm on my phone, just before it received an OTA update. See if your hub updated.

Hmm strange, ok. This is the Ajax Pro app atm, as you can see everything's greyed out but it's still "working" and notifications are coming through etc:

OK I spoke to Kiev today and the official answer is that it was an 'update of the Ajax cloud' as they are getting ready to roll out the new features and updates announced in the last 'Special Event'. A small minority of people (me included) experienced a brief outage on their hub.

Yeah, appears all to be back now (Ethernet connected etc). Looks like it came back "online" at 20:03.

If you have any Ajax related questions I am happy to either try and answer them myself or get an answer directly from Ajax for you. There is an Ajax Installers FB Group that has about 1700 members and has several Ajax Staff (from Kiev) who answer questions, including their VP of Marketing and some of their senior technical staff. If you wish to join please ensure you agree to the Group rules. - Mods if this violates any OCUK Rules I apologise and feel free to delete my post.

I was thinking about getting my mum a remote control but was worried if she lost it then a way to disarm the security system was 'out in the wild'; Hence the keypad. But I'm having second thoughts, because a security system is no good if its not used.

She got an update from the garage door company and it turns out they can't fit her replacement door until the back end of January!
