My 7300gt arrived today hopeing it was a Galaxy but i had the luck of the draw and got an Albatron, but i wont let that get me down!

it has a large black Heatsink (no fan) to cool the gpu which gets quite how when im fidling around on the boot/bios screen, should i get a Fan and angle it to blow on the card?

i want to overclock the memory and core on it to get a bi more fps, it will be an increase of about 5 - 6 fps in some games which is a large differance.

should i overclock it and cool it with a tilted fan or leave it be?

i left it installing windows at home for when i get back from college.

Well its a bit poop to put with all your other good bits of kit... Are you gonna get a better card to do your pc justice soon?

Im waiting for the next Nvidia cards to come out 9xxx series, reason i built it is i need a pc to play Warcraft and Counterstrike source and 1.6, my current pc has agp 5200 and 256mb of ram, and cant game on my laptop as performance is poor even with 1gb of ram and 800x600 res.

the 7300 will let me play games like fear on a near high setting which will keep me cool untill the next 9xxx series is out, Another reason i built the pc for is Crysis which i think will benchmark the future of games to come for at least 3 - 4 years, saying that as crytek team have not released any benchmarking results for the 8800 i have been forced to get a reasonable cheap substitute, hope that proves why i bought it ^^.

i also plan on getting a 22" LG but seeing the recent 22" price drops i figured id wait a while untill the next graphics card i want comes out and get a 24" then to justify the next graphics card's power, i see no reason yet to get a 22" if all im going to be running on is a 7300gt which gets hot when posting.

Monitor the temps in the Ntune monitor application, or ATI Tool for that matter, and see what they tell you.

Once you've got a baseline at stock settings, you can then overclock and see how far the temps rise.

It never hurts to have airflow over hot components in my view, but the fact your card was designed with a passive heatsink on it suggests it should be ok.

Finally! someone who didn't a galaxy. i got the same albatron as you, but will probably send it back considering i was told i would specifically get a galaxy but didnt...

Another unhappy person here who has just received an Albertron this morning, despite phoning OcUK yesterday and being told that they were shipping Galaxy's....

Does anyone have any idea of the performance difference between the two?

There's nothing on the box to indicate either way, however in the big thread ( here ) the discussion centred around how the Galaxy was DDR3 but the Albatron was not...?

If the Albatron only has 800Mhz DDR2 its not going to perform anywhere near the Galaxy with DDR3 @ 1400Mhz

I think they have a totally different core as well, although i may be wrong on that

and its at 62 degrees idle, il do some more clocking.

ok updated :edit: 500 Core 800 Mem on the Albatron

im going out for a bit but its udling at 51 degrees atm, il do th counterstrike stress test and check the temps, is their any program you know of to monito gpu temps?

Just played FEAR to stress it for 30 mins on 1152x864 full settings and no AA/AF, on the speed i said above i got around 23 frames in some of the most intense scenes.

after i played i quickly went and looked at temps to see they were at 71.
