Just having my first Christmas drink of this port wine that I bought from Aldi a few weeks back, it is very smooth with a proper vintage port finish. I believe that it was £13 and change, very enjoyable and warming to the blood.

I remember many years ago winning a ottle of port, it was bloody lovely.
Never have I found one that nice since, absolutely no idea of the name.
Maybe this could be one to try...

I had port once and was very sick after it. Lots of other alcohol was consumed, so can't be sure it was the port, but it's a data point nonetheless.

I've not had port since my last dining in night at a mates mess, always a nice finish to the meal before you then just go on to get absolutely **** faced

Isn't all port basically made in the same place anyway?

To be called port, it has to be made in the Douro valley in Portugal. There are a number of different estates (aka houses) producing port. Other fortified wines are produced elsewhere though.

I got a bottle from Aldi before Christmas and enjoyed it. At that price you can be generous with the measures :D

Compared to the more mid and upmarket vodkas, gins, whiskies etc., I always think port represents amazing value. And sherry too. I know they are altogether different drinks for different purposes, but you can get some really nice bottles for very good prices. I feel like it's a bit of an untapped market, especially in the UK.

Completely agree. Have had a lot more sherry recently and think it’s great value for the quality. Must be getting old!
