Alertpay: fees from USD

Right okay here is the deal, I am collecting money from someone over Alertpay, as long as it covered about £28 that would be great. So someone over Alertpay gave me $48, about $46.55 ends up in my account.

So I goto withdraw it to my bank account:

Okay then, for the amount I type all of it ($46.55) and I get

Amount: $46.55 USD
Fees: - £2.25 GBP

Current Exchange Rate: 1 USD = 0.5931 GBP
Converted Amount: £27.61 GBP
Amount transferred to Bank Account: £25.36 GBP

So $48 from US ends up as £25.36? Is it me or does that seem alittle low?? Anyway I'll probably have to withdraw it at that price but in the future form the US what would be the cheapest option??

At the current exchange rate $48 is £29.38.

Use paypal and its only a 2.5% levy using market exchange rates (the levy is worked into the rate they offer) with bank transfers being free.

What makes alertpay better than paypal? I can only see alertpay being good for large transactions since the fee (£2.25) looks to be fixed.
