Anyone frustrated how some words/sentences are intercepted by Alexa before being compared to commands in routines?

So if I create a route to set our right blind to a favourite position via the command "Right Favourite", all is OK. The command fires the routine.

BUT, if I instead change the command to "Right Blind Favourite", it goes off to look on the internet for a search of that text instead.

I've hit this with other things too like trying to use "TV" in a sentence, so instead had to use "telly".

I don't understand why commands in routines aren't top of the pile for action?

This is what you get for buying an Alexa... the AI is ****, it mis-hears all sorts of things, it is deliberately obtuse when it comes to normal words and terms used by humans, and anything worth actually doing with her requires a subscription to Amazon Prime, for only £14.99 a month... would you like me to subscribe you? Just say, "Yes" and I will sign you up automatically......!!!

It's not mis-hearing, it's simply deciding to look up against defined routine commands AFTER it's own usage. It should look up against routine commands FIRST, or there should be an option on defined routines to elevate them to "process first" etc.

It is an Amazon device. It does whatever the hell it wants to... would you like to subscribe to Amazon Prime for only £14.99 a month? :D

Seriously, Alexa is just an exercise in frustration. Throw it at the wall and save yourself the therapist fees!!

The problem is clearly spelt out. Contribute if you can. Ignore if you intend to (continue to) do otherwise...

Sounds like it needs calibrating. This is rather simple actually, there are certain phrases that will do it. Start off with "Alexa, why am I such a moody old man?" and see if that helps.

Yes, half way down...

Clearly as important as your desperation for attention it seems...

Wow, way too touchy there pal, he’s clearly having a little joke.

I just set up a routine with "Right blind favourite" and it works fine? I've never had a routine overridden by anything else, even things that have valid responses normally which I've changed to fool the kids.

Question:-
Is the thread discussing building lego, "such a 2022 first world issue thread?"
Is the thread asking what trainers to buy, "such a 2022 first world issue thread"?
Is the thread talking about putting colour lights in a case, "such a 2022 first world issue thread?"

Indeed, of the 99.9% of threads on this forum where that statement can clearly be made, why choose to post it on this one? No attempt to contribute, just dump the sarcasm...

So it came across as nothing more than a pointless post simply belittling the discussion. It was treated as such.

Thanks! That spurred me on to try again...

While trying mine, I noticed when saying "Right blind favourite," causing Alexa to go off to do a web search, the text displayed on the screen was NOT "Right blind favourite", but instead, "Right blind favourit".

Changing my routine's command to use than mispelt word ("Right blind favourit") now makes it work :)

Two odd things:-
- If I ask Alexa, "how do you spell favourite" she knows what word I'm talking about.
- My command "Left blind favourite" (spelt correctly) DOES work!

Odd! Very odd!

But at least solved!

Ta for the help!

op is clearly one of those delicate souls. i imagine their alexa is simply doing what everyone should do with such drama queens, it's taking the pee outta them
Umm... You're the one coming into a thread to do nothing more than personally insult someone...

It's odd when people feel the need to do this :)

don't be a drama queen = don't have folk talking the pee. and taking the pee isn't a personal insult but go you right ahead and think it is ya big ole drama llama. :p

Different people... Difference views... For me, calling someone a delicate soul or a drama queen is a needless personal insult. Especially in the case of someone coming into a thread to do nothing more than post those pointless comments... It's just tacky frankly...

If people can't cope with being called out for that sort of behaviour, does that then make them a drama queen or delicate soul? Guess so ;)

ANYHOW... Problem solved... Close thread...

course it is llama. just like getting your knickers in a twist when someone is having a bit of a joke (the first reply) the little temper tantrum you threw at that post was too good to miss.
guess again.

fwiw i originally came in to offer advice to the problem but your huffy response to the first reply meant taking the mick was a much more productive and entertaining path to take
