Alien Breed Evolution

Didn't realise this has been out a bit (Xbox360). One review below. Looks quite atmospheric. Wonder if it's coming to the PC?

Yes, there will be a PC version, but it has been delayed due to an exclusivity deal. I wouldn't be chomping at the bit to play it though. I downloaded the 360 demo at the weekend, and I didn't think it was as good as the Shadowgrounds games.

There just wasn't any atmosphere (no space game pun intended). The aliens just seemed like uninspired blobs, and the torch that your character carries remains pointed about 5 feet in front of you, making it utterly useless.

I'm hoping it was just a poorly chosen demo as I was really looking forward to this, but as far as the demo goes it was a disappointment

The old Amiga game was pretty good. If this is decent then I'll buy it - to support the devs if nothing else...Team 17 are based few miles from where I live....a local game for local people! :D

Was really excited about this but after I played the demo I was really unimpressed. It was too dark, my weapon was too pew pew, guy walked like a constipated chicken, aliens looked crap and you could barely see them.

@ FlukeRogi & Sleepery. Oh dear. totally missed Shadowgrounds, thatever that is, I'll do some research :)
I Was never really a big fan of the earlier Alien Breed games, (too much spawning) I was looking to this though, kinda reminded my of the old psx game 'Loaded'.

Yeah looks like they need our support judging by all the old bangers parked in their car park. I thought game developers all had big flashy cars? :)

lol! I was hoping it would be decent but if it sucks I don't think I'll bother now. I've got my own banger to think about :p

Tower Assault was great at the time, had 1, 2 and TA on my old A600. Fantastic games. :)
Need to give this a go.

Tower Assault is still great - on the right system - the Amiga. ;)
PC versions of AB were always poop - just couldn't handle the scrolling properly.

Sill play them all, including the surprisingly good AB3D and AB3D2

A great game in 1992 but i think this type of games needs a major overhaul nowadays to be successful....has not aged very well;)

The problem is that it's had a major overhaul - but in the wrong direction. They've removed all the fun elements and added new, extra-tedious elements.

The demo is now available on Steam. The controls for moving your guy around are HORRENDOUS.

Well, at least they've ported how the console feels for movement quite faithfully. Movement control sucked on that too.

:D Alien Breed 3D on an A1200... lol what a game that was, back in the day was one of the first 3D FPS for the Amiga, and you needed an accelerator to really get it working at a decent frame rate.

Oh how I played that game for hours…. Won’t bother with this though. Much better games to waste my money on. But the nostalgia from this thread was good. lol

I was similarly excited over this, grabbed it at release on 360.

Wish I hadn't, none of the feel of the Amiga original, gone are the giger esq aliens and they're replaced with utterly soul less starship trooper bugs/antlions from half life 2.

Even playing the entire thing with a friend didn't improve the enjoyment.

As mentioned above, Shadowgrounds via steam is a much better option I feel.

Summed it up perfectly :(

grabbed the PC demo and thought it was great fun, controls are fine once you get used to them and the graphics are fantastic. Although the original was a true classic remaking it without upgrading the gaming mechanics would have been a complete miss.

overall the demo is really short but it's a cracking 'budget priced' game with great effects, excellent lighting and no nonsense blast'em up action.
