Alien Isolation VR maybe?

I didn't realise they had removed support? I was really hoping to give it a go at some point if I could summon the courage

If you have a dk2 yeah on the right oculus runtime it still works in extended mode. One of my first VR experiences and it was amazing walking around the Nostromo! :D

Avoided alien since it's release. Waiting on VR...

That said, the "exploring idea's" bit puts sega in a line with what others have said and done. Not so much what we love and what we want, more experiences created by us.

There was another old school jap developer that said the same a month or two ago.

Well, they didn't remove it as such - they just never updated it past the 0.5/0.6 drivers (or whatever it was), and it was never officially supported or even advertised as being Rift compatible anyway. While they did show it off at events like E3, they only ever said it was a demo for shows like that.

I gave it a go on the DK2 ages ago, nearly soiled myself. Lasted 5 mins playing against those damn androids then had to quit, never even saw the alien.

Definitely would give it another go though if they support it on CV1

This is the only horror game that has ever worked for me, it feels so "real" I can't really explain it but I like that it is only one alien in the game hunting you. Lights off at night and it really does make you wait to be killed.

They removed it? AI on my DK2 was amazing :)

Had to tear the headset off and go calm down for a few minutes the first time the alien wrenched open the locker door I was hiding in and lunged at my face!

I know the install base is low on vr gear, but we must be at the tipping point where it's a case of leaving money on the table with a popular game like AI.

All platforms combined, you'd have thought sega could see value in it. It's hard to see Res7 not being a huge success on PSVR, thus creating the demand for more of the game type.

Not sure on the amount of effort needed/re Doom3, but surely it could be recouped on a premium price point. Cro team are releasing Serious Sam First encounter tomorrow, be interesting to see how that pays off for them, considering it's much the same effort involved id imagine.

First person shooters just don't work very well in VR though, there's a reason why they're mostly wave shooters.

Alien Isolation is pretty nausea-inducing, but as it's mostly quite slow paced, often you're sat completely still just listening. The animations when you open lockers and stuff is pretty chunder-tastic but the viscerality of the experience is enough to gloss over it.

I've often thought about how they could implement VR into FPS games. I know they use Track IR in Arma, but how would VR work with it?

There's a fundamental problem with FPS and VR, which is that moving the camera makes you sick.

In a first person shooter where the camera is attached to the eyes of a character that you move around with an input device (mouse/pad), you're going to be sick. There's simply no way around it.

It's why most FPS VR games are stationary wave shooter, or have teleport movement. Teleporting is completely fine, no nausea, it's when you try and smoothly move the camera around it's barf-central.

Seated type games where there is a stationary cockpit around you as a frame of reference can work.

I guess it's possible a Mech game can work, but the movement will have to be fairly sedate.
