Alien, Predator and Alien vs Predator.

I have never seen any of the alien or alien vs predator movies and have heard they are good, I wanted to get a hold of them and watch them all if possible. I was wondering if there is an order that the films happen in and how they should be watched for the best of the story as I don't really like buying box sets. Does anyone have any idea what the best way to watch them would be?
 
But won't some of the films have been made after others but take place before them in the actual film universe. That's like calling me odd for watching Star Wars in a different order than release?
 
Best wait until prometheus is out next month then :)

But no... I would recommend watching them in the order they came out.
 
watch the aliens box set, then the 2 predator films, then if you have time then give the AVP ones a go. but the aliens, predator and AVP films are not linked (from what i can remember) other than AVP has aliens and predators in. but if you skipped straight to them, you wouldnt be missing any storylines, and if you watched all the aliens and predator films but skipped the AVP ones you wouldnt be missing out either.
 
Question:

Apparently the Predators 'made' the Aliens to be the ultimate enemy but was this an afterthought after putting the two franchises together or was it in the original stories.
Were the Aliens made/invented by the Predators or were they found somewhere and bought back as prey?

i dont remember them being cross referenced in the original individual films, so i imagine it was an afterthought, a way to justify making the AVP films.

No no no!!! :D

From the comics and the AVP movies, the Aliens are just a particularly deadly species that the Predators harvested and seeded planets with for hunts.

I'm afraid non of the AvP are going to keep you awake.

Watch Alien, Aliens & Alien 3 (don't watch ressurection its awful)
Then watch Predator, Predator 2 & Predators.

Then wipe any existence of any AvP film from memory and never ever watch them.

If you ever have a moment of weakness and feel tempted simply watch Predator again instead.
 
IMO this is the order they should be ranked in:
Alien
Aliens
Predator
Predator 2
Alien4
AVP
Predators
Alien3
(Not watched AVP2)

As for watching them, as above, do it in order.
 
Prometheus will clear up the timeline on this, wait and see them in this order,

Alien vs. Predator
Aliens vs Predator - Requiem
Prometheus
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3
Alien Resurrection
Alien 5 (working title) not yet in production (earth bound storyline, placing the aliens on earth, and an alliance between predators and humans)

there are various animated movies/shorts/comics that fit in between these titles, but dont need to be watched to follow timeline,

also if its Alien your into, then the Predator movies are not required, these can be viewed standalone

Do not watch AvP:R, just don't, it's a movie so bad it makes AvP seem like a true cinematic masterpiece by comparison.
 
I would watch the avp series separate to the alien series.

alien vs predator
alien vs predator requiem

All movies worth a watch if you have not seen them. :D
