Alien, Predator and Alien vs Predator.

Question:

Apparently the Predators 'made' the Aliens to be the ultimate enemy but was this an afterthought after putting the two franchises together or was it in the original stories.
Were the Aliens made/invented by the Predators or were they found somewhere and bought back as prey?

In the first AvP I think the whole idea was that they built that tomb thing for them to come to earth and train their young predators against the 'ultimate' adversary.

It was like a massive training course that activated at certain times to produce aliens for them to hunt and train against.

i dont remember them being cross referenced in the original individual films, so i imagine it was an afterthought, a way to justify making the AVP films.

There was also a reference in Predator 2 that the two species had met before when Danny Glover goes on the ship at the end and sees the Alien head skull on the wall.

Do not watch AvP:R, just don't, it's a movie so bad it makes AvP seem like a true cinematic masterpiece by comparison.

i saw AVP as a way to show a bit more about the morals of the predators, a bit like predator 1 & 2 but more so. it shows they arent just murderous and do have certain code they stick to. such as is pred 1 it will go hand to hand and AVP when it will not kill someone who is weak and unarmed. some of the fights are decent too

This is the order I'd watch them in.

AVP and AVPR are pretty poor films. Predator 1 and 2 are completely different, and Predators kind of feels like a remake of Predator 1 in a way. It's not a terrible film, but not amazing either

The original Alien and Predator films are unrelated to each other so just watch them order of their respective series. Don't watch the AvP films until you've seen the originals or it will ruin it for you (because 1. they're complete **** and 2. it will ruin all the surprises).

Aliens 1 & 2 are considered all-time classic films, Predator 1 is not as highly regarded but it's still an iconic flick. All the rest are not taken seriously as "great" films.

As others have said avoid the AvP films at all costs, they're both really really bad

Personally given how close it is to release I'd go see Prometheus at the cinema first and then watch the films as they were released so Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection then move onto the 3 Predator films Predator, Predator 2, Predators

I also much preferred Alien Resurrection to Alien 3 and much preferred Predators to Predator 2

I'd watch the Alien films then the Predator films but skip the AvP films and pick up the graphic novel omnibuses.

I feel they do the crossover much more justice than AvP or AvP:R.

Just watch Alien, Aliens and Predator. These are stone cold Sci-Fi/Action classics.

Then perhaps watch Predator 2, just for Gary Busey.

Just forget that some dead eyed movie exec tried to mash them together and desperatly wanted to stick a 12 rating on the resulting abomination.

Seriously? You rate Alien 4 over Alien³? Resurrection is awful. The special edition/DC makes 3 a much better film btw.

was late 80's, early 90's that they first putting these two epic creations together, the films on the other hand were pure money grabs.

Good idea, bad execution - they could have been better.

I watched both Alien and Aliens, I though they were a little bit to similar for my liking but I did enjoy Alien a lot.
