Alien³ - What are your thoughts?

Alien cubed?

edit: i suppose it was written like that lol.

I think it's the 3rd best.

Alien is great, and a horror film more than action.

Alien 2 was great, as an action film. Well produced. Excellent quotes as well, just a right amount of cheese.

Alien 3 was "meh". could have been good as a film on it's own. But following 1 and 2, it wasn't great in comparison.

Alien 4 was awful. Just made for easy money.

In its own right it was ok as a movie, though I found it pretty boring and as an alien movie I found it lacking. Alien movies should be set in locations far removed from anything that could be contemporary earth for all its faults even 4 got that right.

I like it. The extended version is considerably better, but as Rossi has said, it's the third best. Certainly much better than Resurrection in my opnion, which was poor over all. That had it's good moments, but it felt too much like a theme park Alien ride, and not an Alien film. Alien 3 felt like an Alien film, regardless of how many faults it had.

On the other hand, I'm always reminded of the lost potential and how good Alien 3 could have been had Fox not made a complete screw up, and that's disappointing. Especially given that eventually they hired a guy who could have made a great Alien film, had he been given control.

Alien was a top-notch horror film, Aliens was a top-notch action film, Alien 3 didn't really know what it was meant to be so invented a new genre - "an Alien film" where the mere presence of the xenomorph is presumed to be enough to get audiences in cinemas. It all just felt a bit half-hearted to me, nowhere near as tense as the first film, not as thrilling as the second film, great cast though.

i love the better version of it. i actually prefer it to the first film.

some great cinematic scenes acting in 1 but my god it drags on. 3 is more fun and actions. aliens had about right balance. saying that i like 4.

lets hope the new film is good.

I actually enjoy it. Not in the way that it killed 2/3 of the main characters from Aliens but because of its gritty/dirtiness. The industrial nature of the prison colony is a good setting and there is some great suspense. The Directors cut is better but I would have liked to have seen a film based round the original script as you can tell its pretty hashed together but not a bad job for a film that has several directors and they were getting scripts and story rewrites on a daily basis via fax.

Even the 4th film has its merits... Except the end and the Alien/Human Hybrid lol!

Fully agree with both of these posts... don't really have much else to add :p

The "Assembly Cut" of Alien 3 (there is no director's cut as David Fincher has disowned the film and all versions :p) is what I liked as it had more characterization, better pacing/editing and different takes on some scenes which made it more better than the theatrical release .... its still pretty rough on some of the CGI as a minus.

I read the novelisation before the movie and there's stuff in the novel that weren't n the movie so you can see how tumultuous the film's production was.

It's the 3rd best Alien movie still but a very interesting take on the themes form the first 2 movies, shame it was tarnished by studio interference.

Alien 3, or Fincher actual ideas for it was good, but producers took it over and ruined it completely.
