So for anyone who was upset that Aliens: Colonial Marines turned out to be garbage, apparently a lot of that was down to one typo in an ini file.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/aliens-colonial-marines-ai-fixed-by-a-single-letter.55247/

If true this is hilarious and sad at the same time, probably a very expensive typo too.

After fixing the typo:
"The improvement is immediately recognizable in your first encounters with the Xenos. While they still charge you perched on their hind legs, they now crawl far more often, flank you using vents and holes in the environment and are generally far more engaged and aggressive. Five years after release, a single letter managed to overhaul the entirety of the enemy AI behavior in the game."

There was many things that went wrong with the game, but this was just a small problem with many others.

Plus a fan made patch did also fix the AI too.

It's cool that someone finally found this error and fixed it, amazing how such a small thing can cause such a large problem with the AI, makes you wonder how many other games suffer the same typo problems.

Game wise, it wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be, the multiplayer was a lot of fun, coop play doing the missions together was great and the L4D style escape mode was pretty cool.

Me and a group of friends actually enjoyed this when it came out. Probably the co-op laughs / comradeship that made it more entertaining than it would’ve been solo

I'm not sure if the fundamental issues of this game can ever be resolved. I bought it on release, and AI problems were the tip of the iceberg.

I've always wanted to play this to see what it was like but the poor reviews put me off. Now I'm not sure if I can play it - Alien Isolation scares me half to death, the Aliens vs Predator game from about 2004 is even more nerve wracking than Isolation so I'm too scared now!

Yea wasn't just the alien AI, what really hacked me off was you ended up mostly fighting humans, so was like any generic crap linear FPS game from 20 years ago throughout most of the game.

Poor story, environment was disappointing, it was just pretty dull.

So much wasted potential.

And yet Randy Pitchford still defends this game and says the differences between the demo and the actual product weren't that big of a deal.

This is an interesting video with clips from Pitchford's ign interview where he talks about it, he comes off as a total ass to say the least. Has some swearing so click at your peril!

I didn't buy or play it until years after it released, When I did I got it cheap and already knew it was considered a bit of a turd so I didn't expect too much. I didn't think it was that bad, The biggest disappointment was the graphical downgrade.

Watch the above clips, according to Randy not a lot changed. lulz
